Soham Varshneya scored in the 93rd minute, and Bengaluru FC are still unbeaten after winning at Fatorda

Soham Varshneya scored in the third minute of stoppage time at Fatorda on Friday night, and Bengaluru FC beat FC Goa 2-1 in a meeting of two sides that had not lost yet this season. Goa had gone three games without defeat. Bengaluru have now gone four.

Two goals in the first 17 minutes

It did not take long to get going. Borja Martínez, who was involved in both goals when Bengaluru beat Chennaiyin last month, put the visitors ahead inside the first quarter of an hour. Bengaluru’s own account called it a sensational strike from the Spaniard.

Goa were level in the 17th minute through Francisco Feuillassier, better known as Franchu. It was 1-1 at half-time, and it stayed that way until deep into stoppage time.

An academy player wins it

Varshneya is a 22-year-old midfielder who joined Bengaluru’s reserve team before the 2024-25 season and has played for India’s Under-23s. He made eight ISL appearances last season with one assist, and the club extended his contract in August to the end of the 2028-29 season. Pep Muñoz praised his reading of the game at the time. A 93rd-minute winner away to Goa is a decent way to repay that.

Two points off the top with a game in hand

Bengaluru go up to 10 points from four games. Mohun Bagan lead on 12 and NorthEast United are second on 11, but both have played five. Goa stay on five points after their fourth game.
