Kane has 156 goals in 161 Bayern games, and ten days after the Ballon d’Or he has signed on until 2029
Bayern Munich have extended Harry Kane’s contract by two years. The England captain says the decision was made long before he signed it.
Nov 6, 2026
Bayern Munich announced on Thursday that Harry Kane has signed a new contract running to 30 June 2029, two years beyond the deal he arrived on from Tottenham in 2023. The announcement came ten days after he won the Ballon d’Or in London, and by his account the decision was older than that.
“We signed the contract yesterday, but the decision was made a long time ago,” Kane said. “I didn’t have to think about it for long. I’m in the best place I can imagine.”
Bayern did not publish the terms. German media have reported it as the most lucrative contract in the club’s history, though no figure has been confirmed.
156 goals in 161 games
Bayern hardly needed persuading. Kane has 156 goals in 161 competitive games for them, and he was the Bundesliga’s top scorer in each of his first three seasons, which no player had done before. In September he got to 100 Bundesliga goals in his 98th league game, with a penalty in a 7-0 win over Union Berlin.
The trophies took longer. His first season ended with nothing, as Bayer Leverkusen won the league. Bayern took the title back in 2024-25, and last season Kane scored a hat-trick in the 3-0 DFB-Pokal final win over Stuttgart to complete the double. The Ballon d’Or made him the first Bundesliga player to win it since Matthias Sammer in 1996, and the first Englishman since Michael Owen in 2001.
Chief executive Jan-Christian Dreesen called the extension “a commitment to FC Bayern and to a story that is far from over.” Max Eberl, the board member for sport, said it “sends a message that the biggest goals are within reach at FC Bayern.”
What it means for Shearer’s record
Kane is 33 and will be 35 when this deal runs out. He has 213 Premier League goals, 47 short of Alan Shearer’s record of 260, and every season in Germany makes that chase harder to restart. In August he told FourFourTwo the itch to go back “isn’t there as much anymore,” while adding that he would never say never.
Read this signature as the clearest answer he has given. A return in 2029, at 35 going on 36, would be a different player chasing a different kind of ending. I would rather see him go after Gerd Müller’s Bundesliga numbers than come home to grind out 47 more in England, and it sounds as if he would too.
Back to the title race
None of this settles the league. Dortmund came from behind twice to draw 2-2 at the Allianz Arena last Saturday, Fábio Silva equalising in the 89th minute after Kane’s penalty had come back off the woodwork. The two sides are level on 18 points, with Bayern top on goal difference. Bayern go to Mainz on Saturday, and Dortmund host Elversberg at the same time.
