How the ISL points table works
The Indian Super League is the top division of Indian football. The 2026-27 season is its 13th, with 13 clubs: Bengaluru FC, Chennaiyin FC, Churchill Brothers, East Bengal, FC Goa, Inter Kashi, Kerala Blasters, Mohun Bagan Super Giant, Mumbai City FC, NorthEast United, Odisha FC, Punjab FC and Sporting Club Delhi. It kicks off on 10 October 2026 and runs until May 2027.
After a shortened 2025-26 season, the league is back to its usual home-and-away format. Every club plays every other club twice, once at home and once away, so each team plays 24 league matches and the league stage has 156 games. The top six then go into the playoffs, taking the season to 163 matches. Fixtures are released in phases, and the first phase covers 78 matches up to 17 January 2027.
The table decides more than the playoff places this season. The team on top after 24 matches wins the League Winners’ Shield, which for 2026-27 makes it the official champion of the ISL, and the champion or the best eligible club takes India’s place in the preliminary round of the AFC Challenge League. The top six play off separately for the ISL Cup. Nobody is relegated: Diamond Harbour, promoted as Indian Football League champions, were barred after failing to pay their participation fee, so they drop back without playing and the 13 clubs taking part are all safe.
Points work the standard way: three for a win, one for a draw and none for a defeat. The table lists matches played (P), won (W), drawn (D) and lost (L), goal difference (GD) and points (Pts). Teams level on points are not separated by goal difference first. Under the rules the ISL used in recent seasons, the results between the tied teams come first, then their head-to-head goal difference, and only after that overall goal difference and goals scored.
