El Clasico stats: Real Madrid vs Barcelona head-to-head, top scorers and records

El Clasico is the match between La Liga’s two biggest clubs, Barcelona and Real Madrid. The name was originally used only for their league meetings, but it now covers every time the two face each other — in the Copa del Rey, the Supercopa de Espana, and on the eight occasions they have met in the Champions League.

This is the full statistical picture: the head-to-head record in every competition, the leading scorers and appearance-makers, the record scorelines, and the seven Clasicos played since the 2024-25 season began. Figures are current to the Clasico of 10 May 2026.

Real Madrid vs Barcelona: El Clasico head-to-head record in all competitions

Since their first meeting in the now-defunct Copa de la Coronacion in 1902, the two clubs have played each other 307 times. Barcelona have won 131, Real Madrid 112, and 64 have been drawn.

Competition Matches Real Madrid wins Barcelona wins Draws
La Liga 192 80 77 35
Copa del Rey 38 13 17 8
Supercopa de Espana 19 10 7 2
UEFA Champions League 8 3 2 3
Copa de La Liga 6 0 2 4
Copa de la Coronacion 1 0 1 0
Friendly and exhibition matches 43 6 25 12
All matches 307 112 131 64

Barcelona lead overall, but competitive matches are level

The headline figure of 131-112 is the one usually quoted, and it makes the rivalry look more one-sided than it is. Strip out the 43 friendlies and exhibition games — many of them from the early decades, and most of them won by Barcelona — and the competitive record is dead level.

Across the six official competitions in the table above, the two clubs have met 264 times and won 106 each, with 52 draws. That is the number worth knowing, and it is why you will see different answers depending on which source you read: the two clubs are separated by nothing at all once only competitive football is counted.

Real Madrid vs Barcelona: El Clasico head-to-head in La Liga

Since La Liga began in 1929, Real Madrid and Barcelona have been in the same division every single season, so the league fixture has never been missed. Across 192 league meetings Real Madrid hold a narrow edge — 80 wins to 77, with 35 drawn.

La Liga is the only competition where Madrid are ahead by a meaningful margin, and even there the gap is three matches after almost a century.

Every El Clasico since 2024-25

The two seasons since the 2024-25 campaign began have been unusually one-sided. Of the seven Clasicos played, Barcelona have won six.

Date Competition Result
26 October 2024 La Liga Barcelona 4-0 Real Madrid
12 January 2025 Supercopa de Espana final Barcelona 5-2 Real Madrid
26 April 2025 Copa del Rey final Barcelona 3-2 Real Madrid (after extra time)
11 May 2025 La Liga Barcelona 4-3 Real Madrid
26 October 2025 La Liga Real Madrid 2-1 Barcelona
11 January 2026 Supercopa de Espana final Barcelona 3-2 Real Madrid
10 May 2026 La Liga Barcelona 2-0 Real Madrid

The 2024-25 season was the striking one: four Clasicos, four Barcelona wins, and two trophies decided in them. Barcelona took the Supercopa 5-2 in Jeddah and then the Copa del Rey 3-2 after extra time, Jules Kounde settling it in the 116th minute. The 4-0 at the Santiago Bernabeu in October 2024 ended a long Madrid unbeaten run in the league and produced a record of its own — Lamine Yamal became the youngest scorer in Clasico history at 17.

Real Madrid’s win in October 2025 ended a four-match losing run in the fixture, with Kylian Mbappe and Jude Bellingham scoring.

Most goals in El Clasico

Lionel Messi has scored the most goals in El Clasico. From his first appearance in the fixture in 2005 he scored 26 against Real Madrid, a tally no active player is close to. Alfredo Di Stefano and Cristiano Ronaldo share second place on 18.

Player Team Goals
Lionel Messi Barcelona 26
Alfredo Di Stefano Real Madrid 18
Cristiano Ronaldo Real Madrid 18
Raul Real Madrid 15
Cesar Alvarez Barcelona 14

Most appearances in El Clasico

The appearance record belongs to Sergio Busquets, who played 48 Clasicos for Barcelona between 2008 and 2023. He passed the previous mark in 2023. Lionel Messi and Sergio Ramos are joint-second on 45 each.

Player Team El Clasico appearances
Sergio Busquets Barcelona 48
Lionel Messi Barcelona 45
Sergio Ramos Real Madrid 45
Karim Benzema Real Madrid 43
Xavi Barcelona 42

All five have now finished their Clasico careers, so this list is settled unless a current player has a very long run in the fixture.

Biggest win in El Clasico

The record margin is Real Madrid’s 11-1 win on 13 June 1943, in the second leg of a Copa del Generalisimo semi-final — the competition now known as the Copa del Rey. Barcelona had won the first leg 3-0 and were 8-0 down by half-time in the return, with Sabino Barinaga scoring four. It remains one of the most contested matches in Spanish football history.

Since 2000, Barcelona have put five or more past Real Madrid on four occasions: 6-2 at the Bernabeu in 2009, 5-0 at Camp Nou in 2010, 5-1 in 2018 and 5-2 in the 2025 Supercopa final. Real Madrid have not scored five in a Clasico this century.

Players who have represented both Real Madrid and Barcelona since 2000

Since Luis Figo’s move from Barcelona to Real Madrid in 2000, only Javier Saviola has transferred directly between the two clubs. Six players in total have turned out for both since the turn of the century, most of them arriving via a third club.

Barcelona to Real Madrid: Luis Figo (2000, direct), Albert Celades (2000, via Celta Vigo), Ronaldo (2002, via Inter), Javier Saviola (2007, direct).

Real Madrid to Barcelona: Alfonso Perez (2000, via Real Betis), Samuel Eto’o (2004, via Mallorca).
