El Clasico is the match between La Liga’s two biggest clubs, Barcelona and Real Madrid. The name was first used only for their league meetings, but it now covers every game between them: in the Copa del Rey, the Supercopa de Espana, and the eight times they have met in the Champions League.

Since their first meeting in the Copa de la Coronacion in 1902, the two clubs have played each other 308 times. Barcelona have won 131, Real Madrid 113, and 64 have been drawn.

Barcelona lead overall, but Real Madrid lead in competitive games

The 131-113 figure is the one usually quoted, and it makes the rivalry look more one-sided than it is. Take out the 43 friendlies and exhibition games, most of them from the early decades and most of them won by Barcelona, and the picture flips.

Across the six official competitions in the table, the two clubs have met 265 times. Real Madrid have won 107, Barcelona 106, and 52 have been drawn. Madrid have scored 446 goals in those games and Barcelona 442. The two sides went into the October 2026 game level on 106 wins each, so Mbappe’s late winner put Madrid back in front. Some sources leave out the 1902 Copa de la Coronacion, which Barcelona won, and that is why you will see slightly different totals depending on where you look.

Real Madrid vs Barcelona: El Clasico head-to-head in La Liga

Real Madrid and Barcelona have been in the top flight in every season since La Liga began in 1929, so the league fixture has never been missed. Across 193 league meetings Real Madrid have won 81 and Barcelona 77, with 35 drawn.

Every El Clasico since 2024-25

Eight Clasicos have been played since the 2024-25 season began. Barcelona have won six of them and Real Madrid two.

The 2024-25 season was the lopsided one: four Clasicos, four Barcelona wins, and two trophies settled in them. Barcelona took the Supercopa 5-2 in Jeddah and then the Copa del Rey 3-2 after extra time, Jules Kounde scoring the winner in the 116th minute. The 4-0 at the Santiago Bernabeu in October 2024 ended a long Madrid unbeaten run in the league and produced a record of its own, as Lamine Yamal became the youngest scorer in Clasico history at 17.

Real Madrid’s win in October 2025 ended a four-match losing run in the fixture, with Kylian Mbappe and Jude Bellingham scoring. Barcelona then won the next two, the Supercopa final in January and the league game in May that clinched the 2025-26 title.

The latest Clasico: Mbappe’s double at the Camp Nou

Barcelona had won all nine of their league games in 2026-27 before Real Madrid came to the Camp Nou on 25 October. Mbappe put Madrid ahead in the 41st minute, Raphinha equalised in the 61st, and Mbappe won it in the 87th after Eduardo Camavinga set him up on the break. The second goal was his 100th for Real Madrid.

It also took Mbappe to eight Clasico goals in his first seven appearances against Barcelona. He scored in four Clasicos in a row, from the 2025 Supercopa final to October 2025, with six goals in that run including a hat-trick in May 2025. He did not score in the January 2026 Supercopa final and missed the May game through injury.

22 Clasicos in a row with a winner

The last drawn Clasico in a competitive match was the 0-0 at the Camp Nou on 18 December 2019. Every one of the 22 since, starting with Real Madrid’s 2-0 win in March 2020, has produced a winner: 12 for Real Madrid and 10 for Barcelona. Two of them went to extra time, the 2022 Supercopa semi-final and the 2025 Copa del Rey final.

Most goals in El Clasico

Lionel Messi has scored the most goals in El Clasico, with 26 in competitive matches against Real Madrid from his first appearance in the fixture in 2005. Alfredo Di Stefano and Cristiano Ronaldo share second place on 18, and Karim Benzema is fourth on 16.

The appearance record belongs to Sergio Busquets, who played 48 Clasicos for Barcelona between 2008 and 2023. Lionel Messi and Sergio Ramos are joint-second on 45 each, and Karim Benzema is next on 43.

Biggest win in El Clasico

The record margin is Real Madrid’s 11-1 win on 13 June 1943, in the second leg of a Copa del Generalisimo semi-final, the competition now known as the Copa del Rey. Barcelona had won the first leg 3-0 and were 8-0 down by half-time in the return, with Sabino Barinaga scoring four.

Since 2000, Barcelona have put five or more past Real Madrid four times: 6-2 at the Bernabeu in 2009, 5-0 at the Camp Nou in 2010, 5-1 in 2018 and 5-2 in the 2025 Supercopa final. Real Madrid have not scored five in a Clasico this century.

Since Luis Figo’s move from Barcelona to Real Madrid in 2000, only Javier Saviola has transferred directly between the two clubs. Six players in total have turned out for both since the turn of the century, most of them arriving via a third club.
