Anshul Kamboj is a Haryana seam bowler who has played one Test and two ODIs for India. Born in Karnal on 6 December 2000, he is the third bowler in Ranji Trophy history to take all ten wickets in an innings, and he got his best figures for India so far at Eden Park on 4 November 2026: 10 overs, two maidens, 2 for 22, as India beat New Zealand on the DLS method for their first ODI win in the country since 2019.
He is tall, about 6ft 2in by his own account, and he hits the deck hard. His first-class economy rate is under three an over, and that is the strongest part of his case.

How he got here
Kamboj made his first-class debut for Haryana against Tripura in Delhi in February 2022, and his List A and T20 debuts followed that autumn. The breakthrough season was the 2023-24 Vijay Hazare Trophy. He took 17 wickets in 10 matches as Haryana won the one-day title for the first time, and Mumbai Indians bought him at his base price of ₹20 lakh for IPL 2024.
The red-ball case came together over the next twelve months. In the 2024-25 Duleep Trophy he took 8 for 69 for India C against India B in Anantapur and finished as the tournament’s leading wicket-taker with 16, which won him Player of the Tournament. Then, in November 2024, came Lahli.
All ten wickets against Kerala
On 15 November 2024, at the Chaudhary Bansi Lal Stadium in Lahli, near Rohtak, Kamboj bowled 30.1 overs against Kerala and took every wicket for 49 runs. Kerala made 291. Only two bowlers had done it in the Ranji Trophy before him: Bengal’s Premangsu Chatterjee in 1956-57 and Rajasthan’s Pradeep Sunderam in 1985-86. Our list of Indian bowlers with ten wickets in a first-class innings has the full group.
Ten days later Chennai Super Kings paid ₹3.4 crore for him at the IPL 2025 mega auction. His base price had been ₹30 lakh, and Mumbai bid against them for the player they had just released.

|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2024 | Mumbai Indians | 3 | 2 | 57.00 | 11.40 | 1/24 |
| 2025 | Chennai Super Kings | 8 | 8 | 21.50 | 8.00 | 3/13 |

| Total | 25 | 31 | 26.32 | 9.97 | 3/13 |
He debuted for Mumbai against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Wankhede on 6 May 2024 and bowled Mayank Agarwal. Chennai finished bottom in 2025, and he was one of the few players to come out of that season with credit. His 3 for 13 against Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad is still his best IPL return.
IPL 2026 was the big one. Kamboj held the Purple Cap in early May, with 19 wickets from 11 games, and finished on 21 from 14 as Chennai came eighth and missed the playoffs. He took at least one wicket in 11 of his 14 games. The cost was an economy rate of 10.53, up from 8.00 in 2025.
The ten franchises have until 15 November to name their retentions for IPL 2027, so whether he stays at Chennai is the next thing to watch. The Purple Cap winners list has every season’s leading wicket-taker.
India career: one Test and two ODIs
Test debut, Old Trafford, July 2025. Kamboj had toured England with India A earlier that summer. When Arshdeep Singh was injured before the fourth Test he was flown back in, and he had his cap within two days of arriving. India gave him the new ball with Jasprit Bumrah ahead of Mohammed Siraj, a call Ricky Ponting and Nasser Hussain both criticised, and Ben Duckett hit him for three fours in his second over. He got his man in the end: on the second day he had Duckett caught for 94, six short of a hundred. He finished with 1 for 89 from 18 overs, made 0 with the bat, and has not played a Test since. Our Old Trafford pitch report has the ground’s Test record.
ODI debut, New Chandigarh, October 2026. He came into the XI for the third ODI against West Indies at Mullanpur on 3 October, with India already 2-0 up, and Virat Kohli handed him his cap. He hit two sixes in 17 off nine balls before being run out, but went for 82 in nine overs as Shai Hope’s unbeaten 162 took West Indies past 351.
Eden Park, November 2026. Picked ahead of Mohammed Siraj for the series opener in Auckland, he bowled Mitchell Santner and had Nathan Smith caught by Kohli in his second spell, and his ten overs cost 22. That was the most economical spell by either side on a day when Arshdeep Singh took 4 for 70 and New Zealand were all out for 185. Rain cut India’s target to 143 in 32 overs and they won with 56 balls to spare. The full match report covers the chase, and the Eden Park pitch report has the ground’s ODI record.
The second ODI is at HNRY Stadium in Wellington on 7 November, and the last two games of the series are at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui.
What kind of bowler is he?
A seam bowler who works off height and bounce. His first-class economy of 2.97 is the giveaway: batters do not score freely off him when the pitch offers anything, and Eden Park on 4 November offered plenty. He is also a useful lower-order hitter, with two first-class fifties, the higher of them 60 off 52 balls for North Zone against West Zone in the August 2026 Duleep Trophy quarter-final, which is why some outlets list him as a bowling all-rounder.
The T20 numbers point the other way. He takes wickets, 76 of them at 20.92, but an economy close to nine an over is the part selectors will weigh before he gets near a T20I cap.
