Kane hit the bar from the spot, and Fábio Silva’s 89th-minute goal kept Dortmund level with Bayern
Bayern led the Klassiker twice and had 4.83 expected goals to Dortmund’s 0.7, and the two unbeaten sides are still tied on 18 points.

Harry Kane was honoured at the Allianz Arena before kick-off on Saturday for winning the Ballon d’Or on Monday. By the end of the night he had hit the bar with a penalty, and Borussia Dortmund had come from behind twice to draw 2-2 with Bayern Munich. The two clubs are still level on 18 points after eight games, and both are still unbeaten. Bayern stay top on goal difference.
A disallowed goal, then Laimer
Dortmund thought they had scored first. Jobe Bellingham finished after Dayot Upamecano gave the ball away, but VAR ruled the goal out for a foul by Carney Chukwuemeka on Jonas Urbig, who was in goal again with Manuel Neuer out. Bayern went ahead in the 38th minute. Michael Olise played Konrad Laimer through, Gregor Kobel saved his first shot, and Laimer put away the rebound.
Kane’s penalty and the second half
Early in the second half Felix Nmecha blocked a Kane shot with his arm, and Bayern had a penalty. Kane hit the crossbar. It is only the second time he has missed in 27 Bundesliga penalties. Four minutes later Dortmund were level. Nico Schlotterbeck found Chukwuemeka, and his ball across goal was turned in by Serhou Guirassy.
Bayern went back in front on 66 minutes. Joshua Kimmich crossed, Kane headed it back across the six-yard box, and Upamecano poked it in. Kane then hit the post with a low shot. At 2-1, with Dortmund barely creating anything, that looked like it might not matter.
It did. In the 89th minute substitute Konstantinos Karetsas charged down an Aleksandar Pavlović clearance, and Fábio Silva hit a low shot into the far corner. The Bundesliga’s own goal-probability model gave that chance 5 per cent.
Danks: “mixed emotions”
Aaron Danks is still in charge while Vincent Kompany recovers at home from his hospital treatment. “I think mixed emotions,” he said. “We’re really pleased with the performance, especially this second half.” Laimer said the same thing more bluntly: “We had enough chances to score more goals.”
The numbers back them. The Bundesliga’s expected-goals figures had Bayern on 4.83 and Dortmund on 0.7. On another night Kane scores the penalty and this is a comfortable win. Danks has now taken three games without Kompany and has not lost any of them. This is still the one Bayern will think about. It was the chance to go three points clear of the only side level with them, and Kane had it on the penalty spot.
Dortmund will see it the other way. Niko Kovač’s side have conceded six goals in eight league games, they were second best for most of this one, and they still left Munich with their unbeaten record. That is how you stay in a title race with Bayern.
