Poland national football team players: Urban’s squad, and Lewandowski’s 92 goals to the rest’s 58
Jan Urban’s 23-man Poland squad for the Nations League, with every player’s club, caps and goals, the key players, who is missing and why Lewandowski still outscores the rest of the group put together.
Oct 6, 2026
The Poland national football team players Jan Urban took into the October Nations League games are a 23-man group built around Piotr Zieliński, Jan Bednarek and, when he is available, Robert Lewandowski. Lewandowski is 38, plays his club football for Chicago Fire and has 92 goals in 170 caps. The other 23 players in the squad have 58 goals between them.
That one comparison explains most of what happened in the window. Poland beat ten-man Romania 6-0 in Warsaw on 2 October with Lewandowski scoring a hat-trick, then lost 1-0 in Zenica three days later without him. Below is the full squad with clubs, caps and goals as of 5 October 2026, the players who matter most, who is missing and what the numbers say.
Poland squad for the 2026-27 Nations League
Urban named one squad for all four September and October matches: Bosnia and Herzegovina at home on 25 September, Sweden away on 28 September, Romania at home on 2 October and Bosnia away on 5 October. These are the 23 who finished the window. Caps and goals are as of 5 October, after the defeat in Zenica.

Lewandowski was in the squad for the first three games. He was booked against Romania, his second yellow card of the campaign, which banned him from the Bosnia match, and he left the camp the next day to rejoin Chicago Fire.
Who are Poland’s key players?
Robert Lewandowski is still the reference point for everything Poland do in attack. He is the country’s record scorer and most capped player, and his hat-trick against Romania (a penalty on 24 minutes, then goals on 47 and 86) took him to 92 international goals. At 38 he is no longer available for every game, and the Zenica defeat showed what Poland look like when he is not there.
Piotr Zieliński wears the vice-captain’s armband and has 113 caps, second only to Lewandowski. The Inter Milan midfielder scored Poland’s fourth against Romania, and his 18 international goals are the most of anyone in the 23.
Jan Bednarek and Jakub Kiwior are the centre-back pairing, and both play for Porto, which gives Urban a partnership that trains together every day. Bednarek, the third captain, has 79 caps and scored against Romania. Kiwior has 49 caps at 26.
Sebastian Szymański scored Poland’s only goal in the 3-1 defeat in Sweden and has 58 caps. He and Przemysław Frankowski are both at Rennes. Karol Świderski is the senior striker after Lewandowski, with 14 goals in 55 caps; he scored in the World Cup play-off final in March.
Two 18-year-olds are the players to watch. Oskar Pietuszewski joined Porto in January and made his debut off the bench in the World Cup play-off semi-final against Albania. Kacper Potulski, the Mainz centre-back, scored his first international goal in the 2-2 draw with Nigeria in June.
What the numbers say about this Poland squad
The 23 players have 630 caps and 58 goals. Add Lewandowski and the goals total becomes 150, of which he has scored 61 per cent. Świderski’s 14 is the highest tally among the forwards Urban had left for Zenica, and Mateusz Żukowski, who took Lewandowski’s place and his No. 9 shirt, has four caps and no goals.
Ten of the 23 have ten caps or fewer. The goalkeeping is the starkest part of it: Marcin Bułka has all ten of the goalkeepers’ caps, and Mateusz Kochalski and Sławomir Abramowicz have none. That was not the plan. Kamil Grabara was called up and injured his knee in training, his replacement Bartłomiej Drągowski was then injured too, and Abramowicz was brought in from the under-21 squad.
Zieliński alone accounts for 113 of the 630 caps, about 18 per cent. Seven of the 23 play for Polish clubs, two each at Jagiellonia Białystok and Widzew Łódź, and the other 16 are spread across clubs in ten countries, from Saudi Arabia to Azerbaijan. Porto, with three, is the single club Poland draw on most.

Poland’s results in 2026
Poland missed the 2026 World Cup. They beat Albania 2-1 in the play-off semi-final in Warsaw in March and then lost the final 3-2 away to Sweden, Viktor Gyökeres scoring the winner in the 88th minute. Since then the results have been thin:
| Date | Match | Score | Competition |
|---|---|---|---|
| 26 Mar 2026 | Poland v Albania | 2-1 | World Cup play-off semi-final |
| 31 Mar 2026 | Sweden v Poland | 3-2 | World Cup play-off final |
| 31 May 2026 | Poland v Ukraine | 0-2 | Friendly |
| 3 Jun 2026 | Poland v Nigeria | 2-2 | Friendly |
| 25 Sep 2026 | Poland v Bosnia and Herzegovina | 0-0 | Nations League |
| 28 Sep 2026 | Sweden v Poland | 3-1 | Nations League |
| 2 Oct 2026 | Poland v Romania | 6-0 | Nations League |
| 5 Oct 2026 | Bosnia and Herzegovina v Poland | 1-0 | Nations League |
Two wins in eight matches this year, and six of Poland’s 13 goals came on the one night against Romania, who had Radu Drăgușin sent off after 22 minutes. Take that game out and Poland have scored seven in seven.
The Zenica defeat was the first time Poland had ever lost to Bosnia and Herzegovina, decided by Ivan Bašić’s 84th-minute penalty after a VAR review. Our report from that game covers how it unfolded.
When do Poland play next?
Poland have two Nations League matches left in Group B4: Romania away in Bucharest on 14 November and Sweden at home in Wrocław on 17 November. After four rounds Sweden have 10 points, Bosnia 8, Poland 4 and Romania none. Only the group winner is promoted to League A, with the runner-up going into a promotion play-off. Poland can reach ten points at most, so even two wins would leave them depending on results elsewhere.
