Lionel Messi has won 47 trophies for club and country — 35 at Barcelona, six with Argentina, three at Paris Saint-Germain and three at Inter Miami. No footballer in the men’s game has won more.
The 47th arrived on 6 December 2025, when Inter Miami beat Vancouver Whitecaps 3-1 to win the MLS Cup. The total is still live: he is under contract in Miami through the 2028 season, and Inter Miami are in the Leagues Cup as this page is updated.

One naming note, because it trips people up: the Finalissima and the CONMEBOL–UEFA Cup of Champions are the same trophy. It is the one-off match between the champions of South America and Europe, and Argentina won the 2022 edition 3-0 against Italy at Wembley. Some lists use one name, some the other; nobody is counting it twice.
You will also see totals of 44, 45 or 46 quoted for Messi elsewhere. Those are not errors so much as different rules about what counts — super cups, one-off curtain-raisers, youth and Olympic titles, and whether a league-table award like the Supporters’ Shield belongs on the list at all. Barcelona: 35 trophies in 17 seasons
Three-quarters of the collection was won at one club. Messi came into the Barcelona first team at 17 and won La Liga in his first season, 2004-05, off a handful of appearances.
The two peaks are the trebles. In 2008-09, under Pep Guardiola, Barcelona won La Liga, the Copa del Rey and the Champions League, and Messi scored in the final against Manchester United — the first time a Spanish club had done the treble. He did it again in 2014-15 under Luis Enrique, which made Barcelona the first club to win the treble twice.
The Champions League record is the part people misremember. Four European Cups sounds like a steady drip across a 17-year career, but they are bunched: 2006, 2009, 2011 and 2015, and none since. The last of them was more than a decade ago.
Paris Saint-Germain: three trophies in two seasons
The PSG spell is the thin part of the cabinet. Two Ligue 1 titles and a Trophee des Champions across 2021-2023, and no Champions League — which was the entire premise of the move. PSG went out in the round of 16 in both of his seasons.
Inter Miami: three trophies, and the club’s first
Messi arrived in Florida in July 2023 at a club that had never won anything. He has since delivered all three of its major honours.
The Leagues Cup in 2023 came within weeks of his debut. The Supporters’ Shield in 2024 is awarded for the best regular-season record in MLS rather than for a knockout win, which is why some trophy counts leave it out. The MLS Cup on 6 December 2025 is the one that settles the argument: a 3-1 win over Vancouver Whitecaps at Chase Stadium, Miami’s first, and the club became the 16th franchise to lift it in the league’s 30-year history.
The count could move again shortly. The 2026 Leagues Cup runs from 4 August to 6 September, with 18 MLS clubs and all 18 from Liga MX. Inter Miami opened with a 4-2 win over Atletico San Luis and then lost 1-2 to Monterrey, so their third and final group match, against Leon on 12 August, decides whether they go through. Seattle Sounders are the holders — they beat Inter Miami 3-0 in the 2025 final, which is the trophy that got away.
Argentina: six trophies, and four lost finals before them
The international half of the list took longest and is the half he is judged on. Messi won the U-20 World Cup in 2005 and Olympic gold in 2008, and then nothing with the senior side for thirteen years.
In between came four lost finals: the 2014 World Cup against Germany, and the Copa America in 2007, 2015 and 2016. He announced his retirement from international football after the 2016 defeat and reversed it weeks later.
The run broke at the 2021 Copa America, won at the Maracana against Brazil. The Finalissima followed in 2022, then the World Cup in Qatar in December 2022, then a second Copa America in 2024 — four senior international trophies in three years, after thirteen with none.
The trophy that would have been 48
Argentina reached the 2026 World Cup final and lost it. Spain won 1-0 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, Ferran Torres scoring in the 106th minute against ten men after Enzo Fernandez was sent off in stoppage time at the end of normal time.
Messi went to the tournament in a record-equalling sixth World Cup squad, broke the tournament’s all-time scoring record along the way and finished on eight goals, two behind Kylian Mbappe’s Golden Boot haul of 10. The Golden Ball went to Spain’s Rodri. Our report on the final has the full account.
So the total stands at 47 rather than 48, and only two nations have ever successfully defended a World Cup.
Individual awards are not in the 47
Trophy counts are for team honours. Messi’s individual haul is a separate list, and the headline number there is eight Ballons d’Or — 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2015, 2019, 2021 and 2023. Cristiano Ronaldo is next on five.
