India and Pakistan have met 212 times in international cricket. Pakistan lead the all-time head-to-head 88 wins to 80, with 44 matches drawn, tied or abandoned. That is the number most people are surprised by, because it runs against everything the last decade of this fixture has looked like.
The other number explains why. Pakistan have not beaten India in any format since 4 September 2022. In the ten meetings since, India have won nine and the tenth was washed out.
This page has the full record: the head-to-head in each format, every ICC tournament meeting, the ten most recent games, and the batting and bowling records the fixture has produced. All figures are up to date to 15 August 2026, and the last meeting was the T20 World Cup group game in Colombo on 15 February 2026.
India vs Pakistan head-to-head in cricket
| Format | Mat | India | Pak | Other |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Test | 59 | 9 | 12 | 38 |
| ODI | 136 | 58 | 73 | 5 |
| T20I | 17 | 13 | 3 | 1 |
| Total | 212 | 80 | 88 | 44 |
Pakistan’s lead is built almost entirely on ODIs, where they are 73-58 up, and most of that gap was opened before 2000. The Test record has not moved since 2007 and the T20I record is now heavily India’s.
Two things about the Test row are worth reading twice. Thirty-eight of the 59 Tests were drawn — nearly two in three, a product of the flat pitches and cautious cricket that defined the fixture through the 1950s, 1960s and 1980s. And the row is frozen: the two sides have not played a Test since December 2007.
Why you will see India credited with 81 wins elsewhere
Two versions of the all-time total are published, and both are defensible. The difference is a single match.
In the group stage of the first World T20 at Durban on 14 September 2007, India made 141 for 9 and Pakistan finished on exactly 141 for 7. The match was tied, and the tie was settled by a bowl-out — each side bowling at an unguarded set of stumps — which India won 3-0. Virender Sehwag, Harbhajan Singh and Robin Uthappa all hit; none of Pakistan’s three did.
Some record-keepers count that as an India win, which gives India 81, Pakistan 88, 43 others. Others record the match as a tie decided by a tie-break, which gives India 80, Pakistan 88, 44 others. Both add up to 212. This page uses the second version, because the result on the scorecard is a tie, but a reader who finds 81 elsewhere has not found an error.

India vs Pakistan in ICC tournaments
This is where the modern rivalry actually lives, and where the record is lopsided in the other direction.
| Tournament | Mat | India | Pak | Tie |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ODI World Cup | 8 | 8 | 0 | 0 |
| T20 World Cup | 9 | 7 | 1 | 1 |
| Champions Trophy | 6 | 3 | 3 | 0 |
| Total | 23 | 18 | 4 | 1 |
Pakistan have never beaten India at a 50-over World Cup. Eight meetings from Sydney in 1992 to Ahmedabad in 2023, eight India wins, across four different generations of Pakistan teams.
Their record at the T20 World Cup is one win in nine — the ten-wicket demolition in Dubai in 2021, which remains the only time Pakistan have beaten India at any World Cup in either format.
The Champions Trophy is the exception that makes the pattern interesting. Three of Pakistan’s four wins over India at ICC events have come in this one competition, including the 2017 final at The Oval, which is still the biggest result of the modern rivalry from a Pakistani point of view. India have since won the most recent meeting there, by six wickets in Dubai in February 2025, with Virat Kohli making an unbeaten 100.
Outside the ICC events, the Asia Cup is the fixture’s other regular home. Since that tournament moved to a T20 format the two have met six times, and India have won five of the six.
The last ten India vs Pakistan matches
The Champions Trophy game and the three 2023 Asia Cup and World Cup fixtures were ODIs; the other six were T20 internationals.
| Date | Event and venue | Result |
|---|---|---|
| 15 Feb 2026 | T20 WC, Colombo | India by 61 runs |
| 28 Sep 2025 | Asia Cup final, Dubai | India by 5 wkts |
| 21 Sep 2025 | Asia Cup S4, Dubai | India by 6 wkts |
| 14 Sep 2025 | Asia Cup, Dubai | India by 7 wkts |
| 23 Feb 2025 | Champions Trophy, Dubai | India by 6 wkts |
| 9 Jun 2024 | T20 WC, New York | India by 6 runs |
| 14 Oct 2023 | ODI WC, Ahmedabad | India by 7 wkts |
| 10 Sep 2023 | Asia Cup S4, Colombo | India by 228 runs |
| 2 Sep 2023 | Asia Cup, Pallekele | No result |
| 23 Oct 2022 | T20 WC, Melbourne | India by 4 wkts |
Nine wins and a washout. The last Pakistan win over India in any format was the Asia Cup Super Four game at Dubai on 4 September 2022, when Mohammad Rizwan’s 71 and a 73-run stand with Mohammad Nawaz saw them chase 182 with a ball to spare. Nothing since.
In ODIs the run is longer still. Pakistan have not beaten India in a 50-over international since the 2017 Champions Trophy final — seven meetings, six India wins and one abandonment across more than nine years.
The 2025 Asia Cup was the strangest sequence in the run, because the two met three times in a fortnight and India won all three. It was also the tournament in which the sides stopped shaking hands after matches, and the final ended with India declining to collect the trophy at the presentation.
Why they only meet at tournaments now
Every match in the table above was a World Cup, Champions Trophy or Asia Cup fixture. That is not a coincidence — it is the whole schedule.
The last bilateral series between them was Pakistan’s tour of India in December 2012 and January 2013: two T20Is, shared 1-1, and three ODIs, which Pakistan won 2-1. Nothing since. The last Test was at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore from 8 to 12 December 2007, drawn, with Sourav Ganguly taking both the Player of the Match and Player of the Series awards as India took the series 1-0.
The 2026 T20 World Cup showed how fragile even the tournament fixtures are. The Pakistan government initially instructed the team not to take the field against India in Colombo on 15 February, which under ICC regulations would have handed India the points by forfeit. That instruction was reversed days before the match and the game went ahead.

India vs Pakistan records in Tests
All of these are more than 20 years old, because the fixture stopped in 2007.
- Highest team total: Pakistan 699 for 5 declared, Lahore, 1989-90. India’s best is 675 for 5 declared at Multan in 2004.
- Lowest team total: India 106, Lucknow, 1952-53, in only the second Test the two ever played. Pakistan’s lowest is 116 at Bangalore in 1986-87.
- Highest individual score: Virender Sehwag’s 309 at Multan in 2004, the first triple century by an India batter. Javed Miandad’s 280 not out at Hyderabad in 1982-83 is the best by a Pakistan batter.
- Best bowling in an innings: Anil Kumble 10 for 74, second innings, Feroz Shah Kotla, Delhi, February 1999 — the only ten-wicket innings haul in the fixture and one of only three in Test history. Imran Khan’s 8 for 60 at Karachi in 1982-83 is Pakistan’s best.
India vs Pakistan records in ODIs
- Highest team total: 356, and India own both versions of it. India made 356 for 2 in the 2023 Asia Cup Super Four at Colombo, and 356 for 9 at Visakhapatnam in 2004-05. The 2023 innings ranks first on fewer wickets lost. Pakistan’s highest is 344 for 8 at Karachi in 2003-04.
- Lowest team total: India 79, Sialkot, 1978-79.
- Highest individual score: Saeed Anwar’s 194 at Chennai in 1997, made in the Independence Cup, and it stood as the highest individual score in all ODI cricket until Sachin Tendulkar’s 200 not out in 2010. Virat Kohli’s 183 at Mirpur in the 2012 Asia Cup is the best by an India batter.
- Best bowling in an innings: Aaqib Javed 7 for 37 in the Wills Trophy final at Sharjah in 1991, which included a hat-trick and remains one of the best returns in ODI history.
- Biggest win: India by 228 runs, Colombo, 2023 Asia Cup Super Four.

India vs Pakistan records in T20Is
India and Pakistan were the first two countries to reach a men’s T20 World Cup final, in Johannesburg in 2007, and they had already played out the bowl-out earlier in the same tournament.
- Highest team total: India 192 for 5 at Ahmedabad in December 2012, in the last bilateral T20I the two have played. Pakistan’s highest is 182 for 5 at Dubai in the 2022 Asia Cup.
- Lowest team total: Pakistan 83, Mirpur, 2016 Asia Cup.
- Highest individual score: Virat Kohli’s 82 not out from 53 balls at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on 23 October 2022, with India 31 for 4 and needing 160. Mohammad Rizwan’s unbeaten 79 in Dubai in 2021 is the best by a Pakistan batter, and Ishan Kishan’s 77 from 40 balls in Colombo in February 2026 is the most recent big score in the fixture.
- Best bowling in an innings: Mohammad Asif 4 for 18 at Durban in 2007. Kuldeep Yadav’s 4 for 30 in the 2025 Asia Cup final is the most recent four-wicket haul.
Kohli’s 82 is worth separating out from the list. India were four down inside seven overs chasing 160 at a full MCG, and the innings finished on the last ball of the match. Kohli has called it the best he has played, and it is the highest score anyone has made in this fixture in the format.

When do India and Pakistan play next?
There is no fixture confirmed at the time of writing. Both sides are entered for the Asia Cup, scheduled for Bangladesh in mid-2027, and the 50-over World Cup in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia in October and November 2027. India and Pakistan have met at every ICC global tournament since 2013, so a fixture at both is the safe assumption, but neither schedule has been released.
A bilateral series remains off the table. Any meeting between now and then will be at a neutral venue or under the arrangement that has governed recent tournaments, where neither board sends a team to the other’s country.
