Highest T20 score: the biggest team totals, and the only 300 made against a Test nation
Baroda’s 349 for 5 is the highest total in men’s T20 cricket and Zimbabwe’s 344 for 4 leads the T20I list. The full lists for T20Is, the IPL and India, plus the record chases.

The highest score in men’s T20 cricket is 349 for 5, made by Baroda against Sikkim at Indore on 5 December 2024. The highest in a T20 international is 344 for 4, Zimbabwe against Gambia in Nairobi six weeks earlier. Both were made against opposition several tiers below, which is the first thing worth knowing about the top of this list.
The total that says most about how far T20 batting has actually travelled sits third: 304 for 2, England against South Africa at Old Trafford on 12 September 2025. It is the only time a side has reached 300 in a T20 international against another Test nation.

The T20I and IPL figures are derived from ball-by-ball records of the 3,490 men’s T20 internationals and 1,243 IPL matches played up to 1 August 2026, and the year table near the end reconciles against the counts above it.

Nine of those ten are T20 internationals. The biggest franchise total on record, Sunrisers Hyderabad’s 287 for 3, comes immediately below them and is covered further down.
Baroda’s innings is worth its own paragraph because of how it was built. Bhanu Pania finished 134 not out from 51 balls with 15 sixes, Shivalik Sharma made 55 from 17 and Vishnu Solanki 50 from 16, and the side hit 37 sixes in the innings, which is also a record for a men’s T20. Sikkim were held to 86 for 7 and lost by 263 runs.
The 300 club, and why five of the six are mismatches
Six innings have reached 300 in a men’s T20 international. Here is the whole list, with the opposition’s status alongside it.

That is the check most lists of this kind skip. Gambia, Hungary, Mongolia, China and Austria have never played a Test match, and most of those innings came in qualifying cricket where the gap between the best and worst side in a group can be enormous. The scores are real and the records count, but they measure the size of a mismatch as much as the size of the hitting.
The clearest illustration sits just outside the 300 club. Rwanda made 288 for 2 against Ivory Coast at Gaborone on 24 May 2026, Hamza Khan making 164 not out from 65 balls, and then bowled Ivory Coast out for 17. The winning margin was 271 runs. Nepal’s 313 against China, a week later, finished 221 runs the same way, with Kushal Bhurtel hitting six sixes in an over on the way.
A quick sense of what 300 requires: divide any of these by 20 and the answer is at least 15 runs an over, sustained for the full innings. Baroda’s 349 works out at 17.45 an over. England’s 304 at Old Trafford is 15.2.
England’s 304 for 2 is the outlier that counts
Phil Salt made 141 not out and Jos Buttler 83 as England put 304 for 2 on South Africa in the second T20I of the 2025 series, then bowled them out to win by 146 runs. Before that night the highest total in a T20I between two Test nations was India’s 297 for 6 against Bangladesh at Hyderabad in October 2024, with Sanju Samson making 111 from 47 balls.
Nothing has come close since. Across every men’s T20I played to the start of August 2026, England’s is still the only 300 posted against a full member, and India’s 297 remains the second highest.

One franchise owns four of the top five. Sunrisers Hyderabad’s 287 for 3 at the Chinnaswamy in April 2024 has now survived two full seasons, and the closest anyone has come is Sunrisers themselves.
The record they broke had stood for eleven years. Royal Challengers made 263 for 5 against Pune Warriors at the same ground on 23 April 2013, Chris Gayle hitting 175 not out from 66 balls with 17 sixes and reaching his hundred in 30 deliveries, and that was the highest total in T20 cricket of any kind at the time. It survived until Sunrisers made 277 in March 2024 and is now only ninth on the IPL list.
The last two rows are the same match, which is why they are worth reading together. Delhi Capitals made 264 for 2 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on 25 April 2026 and lost, because Punjab Kings chased 265 down. That is the highest successful chase in IPL history, and a match aggregate of 529.
The biggest chases in T20 cricket
Totals only tell half the story, because the other question people arrive with is what can be caught. Punjab’s 265 in Delhi is the IPL answer, and Punjab own the second-biggest in the league as well: 262 against Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens in 2024. The global mark is higher and it is not an IPL score: Washington Freedom chased 267 against MI New York in Major League Cricket on 16 July 2026, Steve Smith and Andries Gous both making hundreds, which pushed Punjab’s 265 into second place worldwide less than three months after it was set. Both were chased with balls to spare, the 2026 one in 18.5 overs, which left KL Rahul’s 152 from 67 balls on the losing side.
In T20 internationals the mark is lower. South Africa’s 259 for 4 against West Indies at Centurion on 26 March 2023 is the highest successful chase, after West Indies had made 258 for 5, and those two innings still form the only men’s T20I in which both sides passed 250.

India have never reached 300 in a T20 international, but they have gone past 250 seven times, which is more than any other side has managed and nearly a fifth of every 250-plus total in the format. West Indies, Nepal, England and Zimbabwe are next on three each. Six of the seven have come since October 2024. The exception is the 260 for 5 against Sri Lanka in December 2017, made at the Holkar Stadium, which is the highest-scoring one-day ground in India and has a T20 record to match. Three of the 2026 entries came at the T20 World Cup, at Chepauk, the Narendra Modi Stadium and the Wankhede.
The record book is moving faster than it looks
Thirty-seven innings have reached 250 in a men’s T20 international. Here is when they happened.

The column adds to 37, which is the check on the table. Seven months of 2026 have produced more 250-plus totals than 2024 and 2025 combined, and more than the whole of T20I cricket managed between 2005 and 2021. Nine of those 15 came in matches between two Associate sides, so the honest reading is that the surge is mostly about the number of games now being played between mismatched teams in qualifying competitions, not about a sudden change in how the best sides bat. The other six all involved a full member, and four of those were India.
Highest total at a T20 World Cup
Sri Lanka’s 260 for 6 against Kenya at Johannesburg on 14 September 2007 is still the biggest total made at a men’s T20 World Cup, nineteen years and nine tournaments later. Sanath Jayasuriya made 88 from 44 balls and Mahela Jayawardene 65 from 27, Kenya were bowled out for 88, and the margin was 172 runs.
The closest anyone has come was in February 2026, when India made 256 for 4 against Zimbabwe at Chepauk in a Super Eights match, four short of Sri Lanka’s mark and India’s own best at a World Cup. Has any team scored 400 in a T20? No. The gap between 349 and 400 is 51 runs, which is more than two and a half overs of the scoring rate Baroda managed. In the 50-over game seven teams have passed 400, and the list of highest ODI totals shows how much longer that took.
