Pawan Sehrawat: PKL records, stats and the three seasons that still carry his career

Pawan Sehrawat is a 30-year-old raider from New Delhi who sits fourth on the Pro Kabaddi League’s all-time raid points list with 1,340 points from 142 matches, captained India to Asian Games gold in Hangzhou, and holds the record for the most raid points scored in a single PKL match. He is also, since the squad the Amateur Kabaddi Federation of India named on 23 August, no longer the India captain. He goes to Japan this month as an all-rounder in a team led by Sunil Kumar.

That combination is what makes his career worth reading properly. The numbers are enormous and the last four years have been difficult, and most profiles pick one of those and leave out the other.

Pawan Sehrawat’s PKL career in numbers

The official league table has him on 1,340 raid points from 142 matches, behind Pardeep Narwal and Maninder Singh and Arjun Deshwal. Broken down by season, the shape of it is unusual.

Two published figures for his Season 8 haul are in circulation, 300 and 304. The column above uses 304 because that is the one that makes the season list add up to the 1,340 the league itself publishes.

Three seasons carry the whole career

Take Seasons 6, 7 and 8 out of that table and look at them on their own. Seventy-two matches, 921 raid points, an average of 12.79 a match. Across the other seventy matches of his career he has 419 raid points, an average of 5.99.

His career figure of 9.44 raid points a match is not a description of how Pawan Sehrawat plays. It is the midpoint between two players. One was scoring at a rate nobody in the league’s history has sustained over three seasons. The other has been in and out of teams since 2022.

That is also why the all-time list reads the way it does. Narwal scored his 1,801 at 9.48 a match and Maninder Singh has 1,568 at 9.50, both built over a decade of steady availability. Sehrawat arrives at almost exactly the same number from the opposite direction.

The 39-point match

The single-match record is the cleanest thing he owns. In match 118 of Season 7, against the Haryana Steelers, he attempted 38 raids and finished with 39 raid points as the Bulls won 59-36. He scored every one of Bengaluru’s raid points that night and took the record off Narwal. Nobody has come near it in the five seasons since, and the highest anyone managed in Season 12 was Ayan Lohchab’s 27. Our all-time single-match list has the rest of the top scores.

The season record he did not get. His 346 raid points in Season 7 is the second-highest total anyone has managed in a PKL season, behind Narwal’s 369 from Season 5.

He did top the raiding charts in Seasons 6, 7 and 8. Run through the twelve seasons and no one else has managed three in a row: Narwal won it in Seasons 3 and 5, Rahul Chaudhari in Season 4, Arjun Deshwal in 9 and 10, Ashu Malik alongside him in 10, Devank Dalal in 11 and Lohchab in 12.

Season 6 is the one that produced silverware. He finished with 271 raid points and the Most Valuable Player award, and in the final on 5 January 2019 the Bulls trailed Gujarat Fortunegiants 9-16 at half-time. Sehrawat scored 22 of Bengaluru’s 38 points from 25 raids and they won 38-33. It is still the only title in the franchise’s history.

From 2.6 crore to 59.5 lakh

The auction record traces the same arc more brutally than the raid points do. Tamil Thalaivas paid 2.26 crore rupees for him ahead of Season 9, a league record at the time. Telugu Titans broke that record a year later at 2.605 crore. At the Season 11 auction the Titans used a Final Bid Match card to keep him at 1.725 crore, his third straight auction above 1.5 crore.

At the Season 12 auction in Mumbai in May 2025 he almost went unsold. A late bid from Tamil Thalaivas got him for 59.5 lakh, a little over a quarter of what the same franchise had paid three years earlier.

Some of that is straightforward. He tore a knee in the opening match of Season 9, against Gujarat Giants, needed surgery and did not play again that year. Season 10 was 202 raid points in a Telugu Titans side that finished bottom with two wins from 22, and Season 11 was 129 from 13 matches. Franchises were bidding on the raider of Seasons 6 to 8 and had watched three seasons of somebody else.

Sent home from PKL 12

Season 12 lasted three matches. He scored 22 raid points across them, 19 touch points and three bonus points, with no Super 10s. On 13 September 2025 Tamil Thalaivas announced he had been sent home for the rest of the season, citing disciplinary reasons and the team’s code of conduct. The franchise did not go further in public.

He answered it himself on an Instagram live session. He said he had given close to two decades to the sport and had played for India, and put it as directly as anyone could: if he were found to be indisciplined even by one per cent, he would never play kabaddi again. He suggested the split was about strategy rather than conduct, saying he, head coach Sanjeev Baliyan and Arjun Deshwal had worked on plans the management did not want.

Neither side has published anything since that settles it, and the two accounts have not been reconciled. What can be said is what happened next, which is that the national selectors did not treat it as disqualifying.

What he is at the Asian Games now

Sehrawat is one of four survivors from the twelve who won gold in Hangzhou, alongside Sunil Kumar, Deshwal and Aslam Inamdar. Eight places have changed hands, and Naveen Kumar and Surjeet Singh, both gold medallists there, missed out entirely. Eight of the twelve are Asian Games debutants.

What has changed for him specifically is the job. In Hangzhou he was the captain and the attack was built around him. India beat Iran 33-29 in a final on 7 October 2023 that was halted for the best part of an hour while officials argued over a rule, and his raiding in the closing minutes is a large part of why the gold came back to India after nine years. In the squad announced on 23 August he is listed as an all-rounder, with Ashu Malik, Lohchab, Devank Dalal and Deshwal named as the raiders.

That reads as a demotion and it is not obviously one. Sehrawat has always defended more than a specialist raider does, and a side that already has the Season 12 top raider in Lohchab, plus Dalal on 271 and Deshwal on 209 from the same season, does not need a fifth. It does need someone who has taken a raid in the last two minutes of an Asian Games final.

Kabaddi at the Aichi Games runs from 21 to 26 September at the Tokai Citizens Gymnasium. India are in Group A with Japan, Republic of Korea, Bangladesh and Chinese Taipei, and open against the hosts at 6:00am IST on 21 September. Iran are in Group B, so the two cannot meet before the semi-finals.
