Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have both now played their last Test and their last T20 international, and both are down to one format. Across all international cricket Kohli has 28,359 runs at 52.71 to Rohit’s 20,427 at 42.46; Rohit holds the highest individual score ever made in an ODI, and the better captaincy record in both white-ball formats. The two careers have converged in an unusual way. They played their last T20 international in the same match — the 2024 T20 World Cup final at Bridgetown on 29 June, which India won — and they were both in India’s most recent ODI, at Lord’s on 19 July 2026, where Rohit made 138 and Kohli 74.

Virat Kohli vs Rohit Sharma in T20Is

This is the closest of the three, and it is not the comparison it used to be. Rohit finished with more T20I runs than Kohli — 4,231 to 4,188 — from 34 more matches. Both stopped after the 2024 final, and both have since been passed by Babar Azam, who leads the format on 4,596.

This is where the comparison has changed most since the two men swapped roles, and it no longer points the same way as the batting does.

The trophies settle the rest of the argument. Rohit won the 2024 T20 World Cup and the 2025 Champions Trophy as captain. Kohli won no ICC title in his eight years in charge, losing the World Test Championship finals of 2021 and 2023. Kohli’s four global titles all came as a player.
