The BCCI’s two IPL elections have one candidate each, and the Andaman Islands want in
Indian cricket’s 95th annual general meeting in Mumbai has two uncontested Governing Council seats, a bid for associate membership from a union territory with no affiliation, and a chief selector whose contract expires on 4 October.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India holds its 95th annual general meeting at its Mumbai headquarters on Friday, and the only two elections on the agenda were settled before anyone sat down. Arun Singh Dhumal of Himachal Pradesh and Khairul Jamal Majumdar of Mizoram, the two sitting elected members of the IPL Governing Council, were the only nominees for their own seats. Electoral officer AK Joti cleared both applications, which leaves the vote as a formality and Dhumal, the Governing Council chairman, in place for another term.
Two seats, two candidates
The Governing Council signs off on how the IPL is actually run, the auction format and the playing conditions included, so who sits on it is not a trivial question. This year it produced no contest at all. Alongside the two elected general body representatives, the AGM also takes in one nominee from the Indian Cricketers’ Association, the players’ body that holds a standing seat at that table.
That third induction matters more than it sounds. When the Governing Council met on 15 September it pushed the Impact Player decision back by roughly a month rather than settle it, and it confirmed that the 2027 auction returns to India. A players’ representative in the room is the one voice there who lives with both outcomes.
A union territory asks to be let in
The item with the longest tail is the proposal to grant associate membership to the Cricket Association Andaman and Nicobar Island. The agenda lists it in full, for the union territory of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, which is not affiliated with the board.
Associate membership is not the same thing as a seat. It carries no vote at general meetings and no guaranteed entry into the domestic calendar, so a yes on Friday would not put an Andaman and Nicobar side into the Ranji Trophy, the Vijay Hazare Trophy or the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy next season. What it does is start the clock. The board would begin staging matches on the islands and building facilities there, with players groomed over years before a team is considered for the national competitions.
The money and the committees
The rest of the agenda is the paperwork that keeps the richest board in cricket running. Members take up the audited accounts for the 2025-26 financial year, the budget for 2026-27, and the appointment of the auditors along with their fees. The minutes of the 94th AGM, held in Mumbai on 28 September 2025, go through first.
Then come the appointments, and there are a lot of them: the ombudsman, the ethics officer, the standing committees, the cricket committees and the umpires committee. Devajit Saikia, the board secretary and an ICC board director, is expected to continue as the BCCI’s representative at the world body, a role the AGM formally confirms.
The name that is not on the agenda
Ajit Agarkar’s contract as chairman of the senior men’s selection committee runs out on 4 October, and it appears nowhere on the printed agenda. It will still be the thing people ask about on the way out. His panel has a full winter in front of it, starting with the West Indies one-day series that opens at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram on 27 September, and a selection committee working on an expiring mandate is an awkward way to pick squads.
None of this is the business that trends. It is also the layer where Indian cricket’s decisions actually get made, months before they surface as a squad list or a rule change, which is why the AGM is worth reading properly rather than waiting for whatever headline comes out of it.
