Hyderabad were 220 for 9 chasing 259, and their last pair have taken them top of their Ranji Trophy group

Hyderabad needed 39 more runs when their ninth wicket fell at the Gymkhana Ground in Secunderabad on Thursday. Aniketh Reddy and Rakshan Readdi got every one of them. Hyderabad beat Chhattisgarh by one wicket, and they go into the Ranji Trophy’s mid-season break top of Elite Group B.

The chase of 259 started about as badly as a chase can. Dev Aditya Singh removed Tanmay Agarwal and Ruthik Mende in the first over with nothing on the board. Abhirath Reddy made 68 and Aelgani Varun Goud 55, but Goud was bowled by Dharmendrasinh Jadeja in the 63rd over, and Hyderabad were 220 for 9.

Readdi then faced 66 balls for his 15 not out. Aniketh did the scoring at the other end, finishing on 39 not out from 56 balls with two sixes. He was named player of the match after taking 2 for 59 and 3 for 68 with the ball and making 32 in the first innings. Jadeja, who had taken 5 for 84 when Hyderabad batted first, ended the game with seven wickets and nothing to show for them.

Hyderabad have three wins and a draw from four games and 20 points. Karnataka are second on 16, with Punjab and Saurashtra on 13. The top two from each Elite group go through to the quarter-finals.

Bengal’s unbeaten start ends at Eden Gardens

Bengal had won all three of their games before this round. Maharashtra bowled them out for 143 and 186 in Kolkata, and needed only 112 to win after making 218 in their first innings. Prithvi Shaw (53 not out from 50 balls) and Sachin Dhas (61 not out) knocked them off without losing a wicket.

The 10-wicket win came with a bonus point and took Maharashtra to the top of Group C on 19 points, one ahead of Bengal. Gujarat are third on 16 after beating Kerala by an innings and 64 runs in Ahmedabad.

Mumbai survive a 167-run stand

Mumbai’s fourth win in four looked a formality when Railways slipped to 83 for 5 chasing 372 at the Brabourne Stadium. Eshaan Goyal and Zubair Ali then put on 167 for the sixth wicket, Zubair hitting five sixes in 115 from 117 balls.

Musheer Khan broke it. Goyal, on 103, was caught by Musheer’s brother Sarfaraz off a sweep, and Zubair holed out to Suryansh Shedge in the deep soon after. Railways lost their last five wickets for 15 and were all out for 265, which gave Mumbai a 106-run win. Musheer finished with 3 for 42 and Shams Mulani with four wickets, but the player of the match was Tanush Kotian, whose 7 for 45 had bowled Railways out for 259 in the first innings.

Mumbai lead Group D with 27 points, six clear of Tamil Nadu, who thrashed Chandigarh by an innings and 259 runs. Vidarbha are the only other side with four wins from four. They top Group A on 26 points after beating Madhya Pradesh by an innings and 20 runs.

Tripura’s first win, and a break until January

Lower down Group B, Tripura beat Saurashtra by 133 runs in Agartala for their first win of the season. Saurashtra were bowled out for 118 and 208, and have one win from four.

The Ranji Trophy now stops for the white-ball tournaments. Each Elite side has three league games left, and the second phase starts on 17 January 2027, with the quarter-finals from 9 February.
