India’s Under-19 Asia Cup campaign began with a 10-wicket win over Nepal at Al Amerat in Oman on Friday. Nepal were bowled out for 128 in 42.3 overs, and Aaryavir Sehwag and captain Lakshya Raichandani knocked off the runs in 19.1 overs without being parted.
Sood takes three of the top four
Ishan Sood, the player of the match, settled it early. Nepal were 27 for 3 in the ninth over, and all three wickets were his. Arjun Rajput caught two of them. Sood finished with 3 for 18 from his 10 overs, four of them maidens.
Darsh Sonar held an end for 43 from 93 balls and got Nepal to 115 for 6. Then they lost their last four wickets for 13 runs. Rajput, who held three catches in the innings, also took 3 for 8 in 5.3 overs, and Yashveer Goud picked up 2 for 25.
India were not as tidy as the margin suggests. They bowled 19 wides, and Nepal’s 22 extras were the third-biggest contribution to their total, behind Sonar’s 43 and wicketkeeper Aashish Luhar’s 29.
Sehwag’s son goes after it
Aaryavir, Virender Sehwag’s son, made 70 not out off 52 balls with seven fours and four sixes, and was the one doing most of the hitting. Raichandani, who scored 240 against Australia’s Under-19s in the first Youth Test in Rajkot in September, played the anchor role with 53 not out off 63 balls.
Rahul Dravid’s son Anvay kept wicket and did not need to bat.
Pakistan on Sunday
Pakistan also won their opener on Friday, chasing down the UAE’s 224 for the loss of one wicket with more than 12 overs to spare. India play them on Sunday, 8 November, at 10:30am IST, while Nepal and the UAE, the other two sides in Group A, play at the same time.
