WPL winners list: every Women’s Premier League champion from 2023 to 2026
Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bengaluru have won two Women’s Premier League titles each, and Delhi Capitals have lost all four finals. Here is every WPL champion, final and auction record since 2023.
Oct 29, 2026
Four seasons of the Women’s Premier League have produced two champions, each twice. Mumbai Indians won the first WPL in 2023 and again in 2025, and Royal Challengers Bengaluru won in 2024 and 2026. Delhi Capitals have reached all four finals and lost every one of them, which is the strangest record the league has.
The full WPL winners list is below, followed by how each final was won, the season awards, the most expensive players at every auction and where things stand before the fifth season in January 2027.
WPL winners list, 2023 to 2026
| Season | Champions | Runners-up | Result | Final venue |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2023 | Mumbai Indians | Delhi Capitals | Won by 7 wickets | Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai |
| 2024 | Royal Challengers Bengaluru | Delhi Capitals | Won by 8 wickets | Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi |
| 2025 | Mumbai Indians | Delhi Capitals | Won by 8 runs | Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai |
| 2026 | Royal Challengers Bengaluru | Delhi Capitals | Won by 6 wickets | BCA Stadium, Vadodara |
Which team has won the most WPL titles?
Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bengaluru share the record with two titles each. Nobody has defended the trophy yet: the champions have alternated every year since the league began.
| Team | Titles | Finals | Title seasons |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mumbai Indians | 2 | 2 | 2023, 2025 |
| Royal Challengers Bengaluru | 2 | 2 | 2024, 2026 |
| Delhi Capitals | 0 | 4 | none |
| Gujarat Giants | 0 | 0 | none |
| UP Warriorz | 0 | 0 | none |
Every title has also gone to an Indian captain. Harmanpreet Kaur lifted both of Mumbai’s trophies and Smriti Mandhana both of Bengaluru’s, so in four seasons only two people have raised the cup. Gujarat Giants and UP Warriorz have yet to reach a final; the furthest either has gone is the Eliminator, UP Warriorz in 2023 and Gujarat in 2025 and 2026.
Every WPL final, season by season
2023: Mumbai Indians beat Delhi Capitals by 7 wickets
The first final was played at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai on 26 March 2023. Delhi won the toss, batted and could only reach 131 for 9, with Meg Lanning top-scoring on 35. Hayley Matthews took 3 for 5 in her four overs. Nat Sciver-Brunt then saw the chase home with 60 not out off 55 balls and Mumbai got there with three balls to spare. Sciver-Brunt was player of the match and Matthews player of the season.
2024: Royal Challengers Bengaluru beat Delhi Capitals by 8 wickets
Delhi had home advantage at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on 17 March 2024 and made a flying start through Shafali Verma, who hit 44 off 27 balls. It fell apart from there. Sophie Molineux took three wickets in one over, Shafali, Jemimah Rodrigues and Alice Capsey, and Shreyanka Patil cleaned up the rest with 4 for 12. Delhi were all out for 113. Ellyse Perry’s unbeaten 35 took Bengaluru home with three balls left, and Molineux was named player of the match. It ended a 16-year wait for the RCB franchise, which had never won a title in either the men’s or the women’s league.
2025: Mumbai Indians beat Delhi Capitals by 8 runs
Back at the Brabourne on 15 March 2025, Delhi won the toss and bowled this time. Harmanpreet’s 66 off 44 balls carried Mumbai to 149 for 7, which did not look enough. It was. Marizanne Kapp’s 40 kept Delhi in it until late, but Sciver-Brunt’s 3 for 30 helped hold them to 141 for 9. Harmanpreet was player of the match, Sciver-Brunt player of the season. This is still the only WPL final won by the side batting first.
2026: Royal Challengers Bengaluru beat Delhi Capitals by 6 wickets
The fourth final, at the BCA Stadium in Vadodara on 5 February 2026, was the first to go big. Bengaluru won the toss and fielded, and Delhi, now captained by Jemimah Rodrigues, posted 203 for 4 with Rodrigues making 57 off 37 balls. Mandhana answered with 87 off 41 and shared a stand of 165 with Georgia Voll, who made 79 off 54. Bengaluru reached 204 for 4 with two balls to spare, the highest successful chase in WPL history and the highest total ever made in a WPL final. Mandhana was player of the match.
Why have Delhi Capitals lost four WPL finals?
It is not because they have been the weaker side. Delhi finished top of the league table in each of the first three seasons, twice level on points with Mumbai and ahead on net run rate, and that sent them straight through to the final every time. They have still lost all four.
Each defeat looked different. Under Lanning they were bowled out or held to small totals in 2023 and 2024, then fell eight runs short of a modest target in 2025. With Rodrigues in charge in 2026 they finished third, came through the Eliminator against Gujarat Giants and set the biggest total any finalist has made, only to watch Mandhana and Voll chase it. They also won the toss in each of the first three finals and lost all three.
WPL season awards: most runs, most wickets and player of the season
| Season | Most runs | Most wickets | Player of the season |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2023 | Meg Lanning (DC), 345 | Hayley Matthews (MI), 16 | Hayley Matthews (MI) |
| 2024 | Ellyse Perry (RCB), 347 | Shreyanka Patil (RCB), 13 | Deepti Sharma (UPW) |
| 2025 | Nat Sciver-Brunt (MI), 523 | Amelia Kerr and Hayley Matthews (MI), 18 | Nat Sciver-Brunt (MI) |
| 2026 | Smriti Mandhana (RCB), 377 | Sophie Devine (GG) and Nandani Sharma (DC), 17 | Sophie Devine (GG) |
Sciver-Brunt’s 523 in 2025 is the only time anyone has passed 400 runs in a WPL season. Mandhana’s 87 in the 2026 final took her past Harmanpreet to the top of that season’s list on the last night. Where two bowlers finished level, both are shown; the purple cap itself goes to one of them on the tie-break.
Most expensive players in WPL auction history
The record has stood since the first auction. Bengaluru paid ₹3.4 crore for Mandhana in February 2023, and no player has gone for more since.
| Auction | Most expensive player | Team | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2023 (Mumbai) | Smriti Mandhana | RCB | ₹3.4 crore |
| 2024 (Mumbai) | Annabel Sutherland and Kashvee Gautam | DC and GG | ₹2 crore each |
| 2025 (Bengaluru) | Simran Shaikh | GG | ₹1.9 crore |
| 2026 (New Delhi) | Deepti Sharma | UPW | ₹3.2 crore |
| 2027 (Kochi) | Sophie Molineux | UPW | ₹1.1 crore |
Deepti’s ₹3.2 crore at the November 2025 mega auction came through a right-to-match card. Delhi opened at her ₹50 lakh base price, UP Warriorz said they would match, and Delhi pushed the figure to ₹3.2 crore before the Warriorz matched it anyway. That put her level with Ash Gardner and Sciver-Brunt, both bought for ₹3.2 crore in 2023, just behind Mandhana.
The 2027 auction in Kochi on 28 October 2026 was a much smaller affair. Molineux was the only player to go past ₹1 crore, Kiran Navgire was the most expensive Indian at ₹75 lakh to Delhi, and Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu went unsold. Our report from the Kochi auction has the rest of the buys.
WPL records worth knowing
The highest team total in the league is UP Warriorz’s 225 for 5 against Bengaluru in Lucknow on 8 March 2025. The best bowling figures belong to Perry, who took 6 for 15 against Mumbai in 2024. Sciver-Brunt is the league’s leading run-scorer across all four seasons, and on 26 January 2026 she made the first century in WPL history, 100 not out off 57 balls against Bengaluru.
The 2026 final holds two of the league’s headline numbers on its own. Bengaluru’s 204 is the highest successful chase in the WPL and the highest total ever made in a final, one run more than the 203 Delhi had set a couple of hours earlier. When does WPL 2027 start?
The fifth season starts in January 2027. Five teams take part again, and the format has stayed the same since 2023: a double round-robin league, after which the top side goes straight to the final and the second and third play an Eliminator for the other place. Bengaluru start as defending champions and will be trying to do what no side has managed, which is win it twice in a row. Fixtures, scores and the table will be on our WPL hub once the season starts.
