Ayan Lohchab: PKL stats, records and the season he raided a third more and got caught less

Ayan Lohchab is 20 years old, he has played 47 Pro Kabaddi League matches, and he has already produced one of the seven biggest raiding seasons in the competition’s history. He won Best Raider last season with 316 points from 22 matches, the only man in the league to pass 300. He goes to the Asian Games this month having never played one.

The interesting part is not the 316. It is what happened to the column nobody looks at.

He raided a third more often and got caught less

A raid ends in one of three ways. The raider scores, the raider comes back with nothing, or the defence tackles him and the other side scores. That third column is the one that decides whether a big raiding season is worth having, because a raider who is caught often hands points away as fast as he wins them.

Between his first PKL season and his second, Lohchab took 105 more raids. He was caught two fewer times.

Successful raids went up by two thirds, from 151 to 251. Raids that ended with him tackled went from 96 to 94, on a workload a third heavier and in three fewer matches. His share of raids ending in a tackle fell from 29 per cent to 22, and his not-out rate rose from 70.6 per cent to 78.2.

Raiders normally buy volume with risk. Lohchab got the volume and gave nothing back for it, and that is the whole reason 184 became 316.

Where a 316 sits in PKL history

Five players have scored 300 raid points in a PKL season. They have done it seven times between them. Here they are with the raids it took, which is not a column the leaderboards carry.

He is not top of that table on any single measure, and it is worth saying so rather than hunting for a line that makes him first. Sehrawat’s 2019 is the most efficient season on the list at 0.75 points a raid. Naveen Kumar’s 2019 is the hardest to tackle by some distance, 70 times in 472 raids. Narwal’s 369 is still the biggest number in the column that gets quoted.

What Lohchab did was arrive near the top of all three at once, in his second season. Second on points per raid. Second on points per match, 14.36 against Sehrawat’s 14.42, with Narwal’s 369 next on 14.19. The second-lowest tackle count, and he got there while taking fewer raids than five of the other six, Devank alone having needed fewer. His 316 is the third-largest single-season raid tally the league has produced, behind only Narwal’s 369 and Sehrawat’s 346.

The 27-point night, and the man on the other side of it

His career best came on 17 October 2025, at home to Bengal Warriorz. Lohchab scored 27, the most any player managed all season, and Patna won 51-49. Devank Dalal scored 25 for Bengal on the same mat. It was only the third time in PKL history that two raiders have each passed 20 points in the same match.

Devank was on 250 raid points that night. He finished the season on 271, second on the chart, having played 16 matches to Lohchab’s 22. Lohchab finished on 316. For most of October the two of them were the same story, and the two-week run to the end of the season is where that stopped being true.

Patna had the best raider and the best defender and still went out

Season 12’s awards went to Fazel Atrachali as most valuable player, Lohchab as best raider, and Patna’s own Navdeep as best defender with 73 tackle points from 21 matches. Two of the three individual awards went to the same club.

Patna went into the playoffs on an eight-match winning streak and lost Eliminator 3 to Telugu Titans 46-39 at the Thyagaraj Indoor Stadium on 28 October 2025, Bharat Hooda taking 23 points off them. That was a second consecutive season ending one round short: in Season 11 they reached the final and lost it 32-23 to Haryana Steelers on 29 December 2024, Haryana’s first title.

Lohchab has now played 47 PKL matches and finished on the losing side of a final and an eliminator. He has 500 raid points and 17 tackle points, 517 in total, and no medal.

From Bupania to the Patna Pirates

He is from Bupania, a village in the Bahadurgarh tehsil of Haryana’s Jhajjar district, which is kabaddi country in the way parts of Maharashtra and Punjab are. He came up through the Haryana state side, won two gold medals at the Khelo India Youth Games and a gold at the 49th Junior National Kabaddi Championship.

Patna Pirates signed him through the league’s New Young Player scheme before Season 11 rather than at auction, on the strength of those junior performances. He repaid it immediately with 184 raid points, seven Super 10s and the Best New Young Player award, and he took Patna to a final in the process. A left raider by trade, his reputation is for footwork rather than power, which the tackle column bears out.

Asian Games: a debutant with the best raiding season in the squad

India named 12 men for the kabaddi at Aichi on 23 August. Lohchab is one of eight in that squad who have never been to an Asian Games. The competition runs from 21 to 26 September at the Tokai Citizens Gymnasium in Aichi Prefecture, India open against Japan on the 21st at 6am IST, and the final is on the 26th.

He arrives with a problem that is not his. India are also taking Devank, Arjun Deshwal and Ashu Malik, which is four front-line raiders for a tournament that will use two at a time, plus Aslam Inamdar and Pawan Sehrawat as all-rounders who can also raid. On last season’s numbers Lohchab has the strongest case of the four. On Asian Games experience he has none at all, and India have won this gold at eight of the nine Games it has been contested at, which is not a record a selector experiments with lightly.
