Lille were 2-0 up with six minutes left, and PSG still have not won in Ligue 1

Lille scored their second goal in the 84th minute. Six minutes of normal time and five of stoppage remained, they were two ahead of the French champions at home, and by the time the referee finished they had one point instead of three.

Paris Saint-Germain are two matches into the Ligue 1 season and they still have not won one. That they have not lost one either is down to about four minutes on Friday night.

How Lille got there

Hákon Haraldsson put them ahead on 21 minutes, from an Olivier Giroud pass. Giroud had already been denied at close range by Matvey Safonov earlier in the half, and the shape of the evening was set by then: Lille kept getting at PSG, PSG kept not scoring. Dilane Bakwa made it 2-0 on 84.

Then Vitinha hit one from the edge of the box in the first minute of added time, past Berke Özer, and PSG had a different game. Four minutes later Vitinha put the ball on Marquinhos and the captain equalised in the 95th minute.

What it does to the table

Lille go top with four points from two matches, though half the division has a game in hand on them this weekend. PSG sit sixth on two points, having drawn their opener 2-2 at Rennes as well. Two draws is not a crisis in August. It is a strange look on a side that has won the last five titles.

For Lille the number that will sting is 11. That is how many competitive meetings with PSG they have now gone without a win. They were four minutes from ending it.

The one thing PSG can point to

Nothing about the 84 minutes before the comeback flattered Luis Enrique’s team. They were second best for most of it and behind twice, and the equaliser came from a centre-back. But a side that concedes in the 84th minute and still finds two goals has not stopped expecting to win these, and PSG have spent five seasons winning them. Lille will not care about the distinction. They had the champions beaten and let the game get away in stoppage time, which is a specific kind of Friday night to carry into September.
