Chennaiyin had scored once in four ISL games, and they put five past East Bengal in Chennai
Brison Fernandes and Irfan Yadwad scored twice each as Chennaiyin FC beat the champions East Bengal 5-3 on Saturday for their first ISL win of the season.
Nov 7, 2026
Chennaiyin FC went into Saturday’s game with one league goal all season. They had five by the 67th minute. Brison Fernandes scored twice in the first 18 minutes, Ramon Tanque converted a penalty before half-time and Irfan Yadwad added two more after the break, as Clifford Miranda’s side beat East Bengal 5-3 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium for their first win of the 2026-27 ISL.
East Bengal had won both of their league games before this and conceded only an own goal. The champions let in five here.
Brison ends the wait
It took four minutes. Brison’s opener was Chennaiyin’s first ISL goal since Irfan scored against FC Goa on the opening weekend, more than three full games earlier, and he added a second in the 18th minute.
Aké Loba pulled one back in the 29th minute with a right-footed finish from Dani Ramírez’s pass, his third goal in three league games. Chennaiyin went two clear again just before the break, when Brison was fouled in the box and Ramon Tanque scored the penalty.
Irfan finishes it
Ramírez scored a penalty two minutes into the second half to make it 3-2, and for a few minutes East Bengal looked like they might get back into it. Irfan settled that with goals in the 59th and 67th minutes. David Lalhlansanga’s goal in stoppage time came far too late to matter.
For four weeks Chennaiyin had made chances and missed them. This time almost everything went in.
East Bengal arrived four games without a win in the AFC Champions League Two, the last of them a 2-0 home defeat to Al Seeb on 3 November, and they defended like a side that had spent too long travelling. For Antonio López Habas, the international break could hardly have come at a better time.
The win takes Chennaiyin to five points from five games. East Bengal stay on six from three.
