Andre Green scored in stoppage time on his debut, and Kerala Blasters started the Al Fursan era with a 2-0 win over Inter Kashi

The last time Kerala Blasters played Inter Kashi, in February, they lost 2-1 at home in Kochi, and Inter Kashi had their first win in the top tier of Indian football. On Sunday the two sides opened their 2026-27 ISL seasons against each other, and Ashley Westwood’s side won 2-0 away from home. Vibin Mohanan scored after 18 minutes and Andre Green, the club’s first overseas signing under the new owners, added the second deep into stoppage time.

It was Kerala Blasters’ first game since the Al Fursan consortium took over the running of the club, and their first three points of the new era.

Vibin finishes a move down the right

The opener came from the right side, where Kerala did most of their attacking all afternoon. Freddy Lallawmawma found Korou Singh, Korou cut the ball back, and Vibin finished with his right foot from the middle of the box.

Inter Kashi had the better of the early chances. Rosenberg Gabriel made Arsh Shaikh save early on, and Manvir Singh tested him again. Shaikh was busy after the break as well, keeping out a Manvir header just past the hour. Ayush Chhikara curled a shot narrowly wide, and for most of the second half the home side were the ones pushing.

Westwood had set his side up in a 4-4-2, with Aiban Dohling tucking in from the back line into midfield. In the second half he took off Nebojša Kosović and Korou for Paul Ramfangzauva and Momo Yansane, moved Green out to the left, and later sent on Mohammed Sanan for his debut.

Two October signings settle it

Kerala spent the last part of the game keeping the ball and winning free-kicks, and the second goal came out of it. Sanan, the 22-year-old who came home from Jamshedpur earlier this month, set up Green, and the former Aston Villa winger finished low into the bottom corner with his left foot.

Green had come close earlier in the half, putting a chance narrowly wide. He only joined at the start of October, as a free agent after leaving the Portuguese club AVS in July, and he has a goal on his debut.

It is one game. But when Westwood took over last season, Kerala Blasters had one point from their first six, and this win came from a squad that was still being stitched together in the week of the opener.

What comes next

Kerala stay on the road for one more week. They play NorthEast United on Sunday, 18 October, and their first home game of the season is against Mumbai City at Kaloor on 25 October. Inter Kashi play Odisha FC on Saturday, 17 October.
