Richa Ghosh has a hand in four dismissals, and the Super Giants still lose by 31
Ghosh stumped one and completed three run-outs at Old Trafford, but Sophia Dunkley’s 57 and Ashleigh Gardner’s 4 for 16 carried Trent Rockets past Manchester Super Giants and into second in the women’s Hundred.

Richa Ghosh had a hand in four Trent Rockets dismissals at Old Trafford on Friday. She stumped Ashleigh Gardner, and she broke the stumps for all three of the run-outs that turned the back half of the Rockets innings into a mess. Manchester Super Giants still lost by 31 runs, because by the time any of that happened Sophia Dunkley and Sophie Luff had already put the game somewhere the home side could not reach.
Dunkley made 57 from 33 balls, Luff 51 from 26, and their second-wicket stand of 91 carried the Rockets from 9 for 1 to 100 for 2. Everything after that was damage control on both sides.
Seven wickets for 53 and it barely mattered
Meg Lanning put the Rockets in, and Grace Ballinger justified it by bowling Beth Mooney for 2 inside the first 11 balls. Then Dunkley and Luff went at better than a run a ball each. Luff reached 50 off 25, Dunkley off 30, and the Super Giants had no obvious way of slowing either of them down.
The collapse, when it came, was severe. Luff fell at 100, Dunkley at 116, and Bess Heath went two balls later without scoring. Sophie Ecclestone finished with 2 for 24 from her 20 balls, the tidiest return of the innings alongside Ballinger’s 1 for 21. Between them the Super Giants took the last seven Rockets wickets for 53 runs, three of them run-outs with Ghosh finishing the job each time.
It should have been enough to keep the total near 130. Georgia Adams, unbeaten on 20 from 13, made sure it was not, and 153 for 8 gave the Rockets plenty to bowl at.
Gardner turns the chase inside out
Smriti Mandhana lasted six balls. Three days after her unbeaten 88 had won a game at Headingley, she was stumped by Mooney off Samantha Bates for 4, and the Super Giants were 6 for 1 with the powerplay barely started. They finished those 25 balls on 24 for 2.
Lanning and Kathryn Bryce both got in without going on, the captain making 35 from 24 before Ashleigh Gardner trapped her in front. Lanning reviewed it. The review was struck down, and with it went the last real argument the Super Giants had.
Gardner’s figures tell the rest: 4 for 16 from 18 balls, conceding less than a run a ball while everyone around her went at more. Charley Phillips and Bates took two each. Ghosh, so busy behind the stumps an hour earlier, got 13 from 8 before Dunkley caught her. Maitlan Brown swung 16 from 7 near the end, which flattered a total that closed on 122 with 7 balls unused.
Second, and only just behind
The win lifts the Rockets above the Super Giants into second on 12 points, with a net run rate of 2.076 that is comfortably the best in the competition. Manchester drop to third on 10, a total that includes two points from the washout against Birmingham Phoenix on 26 July.
Southern Brave remain the problem. Four matches, four wins, 16 points, and the Super Giants still have to play them. The Rockets do not, which may end up mattering as much as anything that happened on Friday.
