Kohli has a hundred in both of India’s ODIs at Barsapara, and a win there on Wednesday takes the series
India lead West Indies 1-0 going into the second ODI in Guwahati, a ground where they have won both men’s ODIs they have played. The bowling around Kuldeep Yadav is the thing to watch.

India have played two men’s ODIs at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium and won both. Virat Kohli made a hundred in each of them. He goes back there on Wednesday after 139 not out in Thiruvananthapuram, and India can wrap up the three-match series with a game to spare.
The second ODI is a day-night game, starting at 2pm IST on 30 September. India lead 1-0 after chasing 296 with 50 balls left on Sunday.
West Indies’ last ODI at Barsapara
West Indies played the first men’s ODI at Barsapara, in October 2018, and it did not go well for them. Shimron Hetmyer made 106 and they got to 322 for 8. Rohit Sharma and Kohli then added 246 together, Rohit finishing on 152 not out and Kohli on 140, and India were home by eight wickets with 47 balls to spare.
The ground’s only other men’s ODI was against Sri Lanka in January 2023. India made 373 for 7 with Kohli scoring 113 from 87 balls, and won by 67 runs even though Dasun Shanaka finished unbeaten on 108. Rohit made 83 and Shubman Gill 70 that day. All three are in this squad, and Gill is now captain.
Two games is a small sample. Both first innings still went past 320, and the 322 West Indies made in 2018 was chased down inside 43 overs.
What India will want to fix
The batting did not need fixing on Sunday. Gill made 110, Kohli’s 139 came from 88 balls, and India reached 300 for 2 in 41.4 overs. The bowling is the open question. Justin Greaves made 101 and West Indies were 176 for 1 in the 31st over before Kuldeep Yadav pulled them back. He took 4 for 40 on his return to the ODI side, and West Indies still finished on 295 for 7.
Kuldeep’s ten overs cost 40. The other 40 overs cost 255, extras included. That is the part Gill has to sort out, and Guwahati is not a ground that forgives a loose attack.
West Indies need a win
Shai Hope’s side have to win in Guwahati or the series is gone before Mullanpur on 3 October. They did plenty right in the opener. Greaves and John Campbell put on 135 for the first wicket, and Amir Jangoo’s unbeaten 58 got them close to 300 after they had lost four wickets for 22.
The problem is that 295 was nowhere near enough in Thiruvananthapuram, and the last West Indies side here lost after making 322. If they bat first again, my guess is they need 330-plus and a better answer to Kuldeep’s googly than they found on Sunday.
