Harmanpreet and Deepti made hundreds, and Vaishnavi’s four wickets gave India the Zimbabwe ODI series
India were 19 for 2 in Vadodara before Harmanpreet Kaur’s 126 and Deepti Sharma’s unbeaten 106 took them to 328, and Zimbabwe lost their last eight wickets for 100 in a 121-run defeat.

Smriti Mandhana lasted two balls in Vadodara on Sunday, and India were 19 for 2 inside three overs. Then Harmanpreet Kaur made 126, Deepti Sharma made 106 not out, and India finished on 328 for 6. Zimbabwe were bowled out for 207, India won by 121 runs, and the series is theirs with a game to spare.
Three drops and an eighth hundred
India won the toss and batted at the Kotambi Stadium, and Nomvelo Sibanda took two early wickets. Mandhana was caught for a duck off the fourth ball of the innings, and Shafali Verma followed for 8 in the third over.
Pratika Rawal and Harmanpreet put that right with 124 for the third wicket. Rawal made 61 off 67 balls, with two sixes, before Nyasha Gwanzura had her caught by Beloved Biza. Tejal Hasabnis went for 3 an over later, and at 148 for 4 the game was still open.
Zimbabwe had their chances with Harmanpreet. She was dropped three times, once by the Zimbabwe captain, Josephine Nkomo, and she made them pay. She reached her hundred off 101 balls and was out in the 47th over for 126 off 121, with 15 fours, holing out to long-off off Michelle Mavunga. It was her eighth ODI hundred, one more than Mithali Raj made in her whole career.
Deepti’s first ODI hundred since 2017
Deepti came in at 148 for 4 and was the one who pushed the total past 300. She and Harmanpreet added 153 for the fifth wicket in 137 balls, India’s highest ODI partnership for the fifth wicket or lower. The old mark was 122, by Sneh Rana and Pooja Vastrakar against Pakistan at the 2022 World Cup.
She got to three figures off 83 balls in the final over and was 106 not out from 86 at the end, with 15 fours. Her only other ODI hundred was the 188 against Ireland in Potchefstroom in 2017. Batting at No. 6, she is also the first Indian woman to make an ODI hundred from that low in the order.
Zimbabwe were 107 for 2
For 20 overs Zimbabwe chased as if they believed it. Modester Mupachikwa and Chipo Mugeri-Tiripano added 69 for the second wicket, and the visitors had passed 100 with just one wicket down. Sayali Satghare bowled Mugeri-Tiripano for 46, and five overs later Vaishnavi Sharma had Mupachikwa caught by the substitute Harleen Deol for 49, one short of a fifty.
That was the end of the chase. Vaishnavi took 4 for 39 in her ten overs, and three of the four were lbw or bowled: Biza for 34 after India reviewed, Nkomo for 22 and Mavunga for 3. Deepti then took two wickets in two balls in the 46th over and finished with 3 for 32. Zimbabwe lost their last eight wickets for 100 runs and were all out with seven balls left.
One game left
India have now won all five games against Zimbabwe on this tour, the three T20Is in Raipur and both ODIs in Vadodara. The third ODI is at the same ground on Wednesday, 28 October.
It still counts for something. The series is part of the ICC Women’s Championship, so the points on offer on Wednesday are the same as they were on Sunday.
