Most T20I wickets for India: Arshdeep Singh leads on 135

He reached it in 91 matches since his debut in 2022, and he is still playing. Jasprit Bumrah is second on 121 and Hardik Pandya third on 114. Yuzvendra Chahal, who led this list for years, is now fifth.

Only two figures on this list have stopped moving

Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s 90 and Ravichandran Ashwin’s 72 are final: neither has played a T20I since 2022. Every other bowler in the top ten is still active, and every one of their totals has changed in the last three years.

The scale of it is easy to underestimate. Axar Patel has gone from ninth on 37 to fourth on 101. Kuldeep Yadav sits sixth on 95. Varun Chakravarthy, who was not in the top ten at all, is eighth on 74. Arshdeep Singh has gone from 41 wickets to 135, more than trebling his tally.

None of that is a correction. Checked against the record as it stood on the day this page was first written, its figures were right in every row. The list simply describes a side that has played more than sixty T20Is since. On a list like this, the names that look stable are the retired ones.

The best bowling figures

Deepak Chahar’s 6 for 7 against Bangladesh at Nagpur in November 2019 are the best figures any India bowler has returned in a T20I, from 3.2 overs, and they included a hat-trick.

Yuzvendra Chahal’s 6 for 25 against England at Bengaluru in 2017 is the only other six-wicket haul. Below them: Bhuvneshwar Kumar 5 for 4 against Afghanistan in the 2022 Asia Cup, the most economical five-for in the list, and 5 for 17 each for Kuldeep Yadav and Varun Chakravarthy, both against South Africa.

Average, economy and what the leader costs

Kuldeep Yadav has the best average of the top ten, 13.74, well clear of Varun Chakravarthy’s 17.36 and Bumrah’s 18.08. Bumrah has the best economy rate, 6.51.

Arshdeep Singh has the highest economy rate of the ten at 8.56, and that is the trade this list does not show on its own: he bowls the powerplay and the death, the two phases where wickets and runs both come fastest. Hardik Pandya, who bowls in the same windows, is next at 8.34.
