Most sixes in T20 cricket: Chris Gayle’s 1,056 still leads
Chris Gayle has hit 1,056 sixes in T20 cricket, more than any other batter. Here is the full list, plus the T20I and IPL six-hitting records.
Mar 29, 2023 · Updated Sep 2, 2026
Gayle hit them in 463 matches between 2005 and 2022, and has not played a Twenty20 since. The man closest to him has not stopped: Kieron Pollard is on 1,010 and still playing.
Most sixes in T20 cricket: the all-time list
These figures cover every men’s Twenty20 match — internationals, the IPL, the CPL, the Big Bash and every other domestic league — and are current to the start of September 2026.

Gayle’s record is 46 sixes from changing hands
The gap at the top is smaller than it looks, because only one of the two men is still batting. Pollard has played 751 T20s to Gayle’s 463 and is 46 short. Nobody else is within 200.
Gayle’s rate is what keeps him there. He hit 2.3 sixes an innings across his career. Pollard, batting lower and often for only a handful of balls, has needed 668 innings for his 1,010 — 1.5 an innings.
Both men have now done something this page used to say only Gayle had done: score 14,000 T20 runs and hit 1,000 sixes. Pollard’s 14,933 runs are the most of anyone on the list above, and Jos Buttler’s 14,890 are not far behind.
Most sixes in T20 Internationals
| Player | Team | Span | Mat | Sixes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Karanbir Singh | Austria | 2024-2026 | 65 | 214 |
| Rohit Sharma | India | 2007-2024 | 159 | 205 |
| Muhammad Waseem | UAE | 2021-2026 | 99 | 196 |
| Jos Buttler | England | 2011-2026 | 160 | 186 |
| Suryakumar Yadav | India | 2021-2026 | 113 | 179 |
| Martin Guptill | New Zealand | 2009-2022 | 122 | 173 |
| Babar Hayat | Hong Kong | 2014-2026 | 112 | 166 |
| Syed Aziz | Malaysia | 2019-2026 | 128 | 157 |
| Rovman Powell | West Indies | 2017-2026 | 120 | 156 |

| Sikandar Raza | Zimbabwe | 2013-2026 | 142 | 150 |
| Nicholas Pooran | West Indies | 2016-2024 | 106 | 149 |
Rohit Sharma is no longer the leading six-hitter in T20 Internationals. Austria’s Karanbir Singh has 214, nine more than Rohit’s 205, and he has taken 65 matches to do it against Rohit’s 159. Rohit played his last T20I in 2024, so the number he finished on is the number he keeps.
The reason a name from Austria sits at the top of a batting record is the same one that reshaped the bowling lists: since 1 January 2019 every match between ICC member nations counts as a T20I, so European and Asian Associate sides now play a full international calendar against each other. Karanbir Singh has struck at 174 across 64 innings in it.
India still have two batters in the top five. Rohit is second, and Suryakumar Yadav is fifth on 179 from 113 matches, and is 26 behind Rohit’s mark with his career still running.
Most sixes in the IPL
| Player | Span | Mat | Runs | Sixes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Chris Gayle | 2009-2021 | 142 | 4,965 | 357 |
| Rohit Sharma | 2008-2026 | 281 | 7,329 | 323 |
| Virat Kohli | 2008-2026 | 283 | 9,336 | 316 |
| MS Dhoni | 2008-2025 | 278 | 5,439 | 264 |
| AB de Villiers | 2008-2021 | 184 | 5,162 | 251 |
| Sanju Samson | 2013-2026 | 191 | 5,181 | 243 |
| KL Rahul | 2013-2026 | 159 | 5,815 | 239 |
| David Warner | 2009-2024 | 184 | 6,565 | 236 |
| Kieron Pollard | 2010-2022 | 189 | 3,412 | 223 |
| Andre Russell | 2012-2025 | 140 | 2,651 | 223 |
Gayle leads here too, on 357 from 142 matches, but this is the record most likely to fall next. Rohit Sharma is 34 behind and Virat Kohli 41 behind, and both were still playing in the 2026 IPL season. Gayle last played in the competition in 2021.
The efficiency gap is the story of the table. Gayle’s 357 came in 142 matches. Rohit has needed 281 and Kohli 283, and Sanju Samson and KL Rahul are the other two active names in the top seven.
Most sixes in a single T20 innings
The record for one innings is 19 sixes, by Finn Allen, in a 151 from 51 balls against Washington at Oakland in June 2025.
Gayle has the next two: 18 sixes in an unbeaten 146 at Mirpur in December 2017, and 17 in the innings he is best remembered for — 175 not out from 66 balls for Royal Challengers Bangalore against Pune at Bengaluru in April 2013. Sahil Chauhan also hit 18, in a 144 not out from 41 balls against Cyprus in June 2024.
