Most centuries in T20I cricket: Maxwell and Rohit lead on five

Rohit got there first, reaching five in January 2024 with 121 not out from 69 balls against Afghanistan at the Chinnaswamy; Maxwell drew level a month later with 120 not out at the Adelaide Oval. Rohit has since retired from T20 internationals. Maxwell is still playing.

Nine of the seventeen play for associate nations

That is the part of this list that has changed most, and it is not a quirk of the data. The ICC gave full T20I status to all of its members from January 2019, so matches between Austria and Hungary, or Spain and Croatia, now carry the same record-book weight as India against Australia.

Karanbir Singh of Austria has four, one behind the record, from 65 matches since his debut in 2024 — more than Babar Azam, Finn Allen or Sanju Samson. His 164 from 57 balls against Hungary in June 2026 is among the highest scores made in any T20I; Aaron Finch’s 172 against Zimbabwe in 2018 is still the record.

Sabawoon Davizi of Czechia, Kushal Bhurtel of Nepal, Muhammad Waseem of the UAE, George Munsey of Scotland, Adil Butt of Eswatini, Dwi Kesuma of Indonesia, Mohammad Ihsan of Spain and Darren Visser of Samoa complete the associate group, all on three.

Suresh Raina’s 101 against South Africa at St Lucia in the 2010 World T20 was the first. Rohit’s five came between 2015 and 2024 and no other India batter has more than four.

Sanju Samson’s three all arrived inside five weeks in late 2024 — against Bangladesh at Hyderabad on 12 October, then twice in South Africa. Abhishek Sharma and Tilak Varma have two each, and Tilak’s came in consecutive innings.

The last of those produced something India had not managed before: at Johannesburg on 15 November 2024, Tilak Varma made 120 not out and Samson 109 not out in the same innings. Virat Kohli, who scored more T20I runs than every India player except Rohit, finished with one hundred.

The two on five

Glenn Maxwell made his first in Pallekele in 2016, an unbeaten 145 from 65 balls that is still his highest score in the format. Two of the five came against India, in Bengaluru in 2019 and in Guwahati in 2023 — the second in his 100th T20I. His fifth was 120 not out against West Indies at Adelaide in February 2024.

Rohit Sharma made his first in Dharamsala in 2015, a 66-ball 106 in a match India lost. His 118 against Sri Lanka at Indore in 2017 came off 43 balls, with the hundred reached in 35 — then the joint-fastest in T20I cricket. He added two in 2018 and the fifth against Afghanistan in January 2024, which took him clear of the field.
