Chris Gayle has the most centuries in T20 cricket. He made 22 of them in 455 innings between 2005 and 2022, and no one else has reached 14.

Babar Azam is second on 13. Four players are next on 10 each: Abhishek Sharma, Quinton de Kock, Virat Kohli and David Warner. Gayle stopped playing the format in 2022, so his number is final — and four years on, the closest active batter is still nine hundreds behind.

Chris Gayle | 22 T20 centuries

Gayle’s number looks less like a record than a different category. He has nine more hundreds than the man in second place, and he got there while scoring 14,562 runs at 36.22 in 463 matches, with 88 fifties on top of the 22 hundreds. That was the most runs in T20 cricket until 2026; three active players have since passed him, leaving him fourth. Our page on the most runs in T20 cricket has the rest of that list.

Two other landmarks sit alongside it. His 175 not out for Team Bangalore against Team Pune at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in April 2013 was the highest individual score in T20 cricket for 13 years, until Lhuan-dre Pretorius made 188 not out for Titans in October 2026. And his 1,056 sixes lead the format, with Kieron Pollard on 1,013 the only other player past a thousand.

Babar Azam | 13 T20 centuries

Babar is the only active batter with a realistic route to the record, and even that is a long walk. He has 13 hundreds from 359 matches and 12,493 runs at 42.78, the best average of anyone in the top ten here, along with 101 fifties. That is 114 scores of fifty or more in 346 innings — a big score roughly a third of the times he bats.

Kohli has 10 hundreds from 14,218 runs at 42.44 in 430 matches; Warner 10 from 14,284 at 37.29 in 439. They have played the format almost exactly in parallel — same span, nine matches apart, 66 runs apart on careers of more than fourteen thousand — and Kohli has done it at five runs an innings more.

Abhishek Sharma has reached the same 10 in only 206 innings, a hundred every 21 innings. That is the same rate as Gayle, who made one every 21 across 455 innings. Quinton de Kock has his 10 from 449 innings.

The five players on nine

Jos Buttler, Faf du Plessis, Rilee Rossouw, Sahibzada Farhan and James Vince all have nine, and one of them stands out for how quickly he got there.

Sahibzada Farhan has his nine from 175 innings. Buttler needed 498 innings for the same nine, James Vince 490, Faf du Plessis 426 and Rilee Rossouw 399. That is a hundred every 19 innings for Farhan against one every 55 for Buttler — a quicker rate than Gayle himself managed.

Farhan also owns the biggest score in this group: 162 not out off 72 balls against Quetta at Multan in March 2025.

Most centuries in T20 cricket by an Indian

How many T20I centuries have been scored?

This is a different and much shorter list, because T20 internationals are a small slice of the format. Glenn Maxwell and Rohit Sharma share the record on five each; Phil Salt and Suryakumar Yadav have four, as does Austria’s Karanbir Singh. Gayle, for all his 22 T20 hundreds, scored only two of them for West Indies.
