Abhishek Sharma overtakes Shubman Gill for highest individual T20I score for India

Shubman Gill’s highest individual T20I score for India was also his maiden T20I century.

The record for the highest individual T20I score for India belongs to Abhishek Sharma, whose 135 against England at the Wankhede Stadium on 2 February 2025 passed Shubman Gill’s unbeaten 126 from two years earlier.

Abhishek faced 54 balls, hit seven fours and 13 sixes, and struck at 250.00. India made 247 for 9 and won by 150 runs. It was his second T20I hundred; the first was exactly 100 against Zimbabwe at Harare in July 2024.

Shubman Gill 126*, Ahmedabad, 2023

Gill held the record for two years. His unbeaten 126 from 63 balls against New Zealand at Ahmedabad in February 2023 carried 12 fours and seven sixes at a strike rate of 200.00, and was his first fifty-plus score in T20 internationals.

Ruturaj Gaikwad 123*, Guwahati, 2023

Gaikwad’s unbeaten 123 from 57 balls against Australia at Guwahati in November 2023 is the highest score by an India batter on this list that did not, at the time, break the national record — Gill’s 126 was nine months old and three runs clear.

Virat Kohli 122*, Dubai, 2022

Kohli’s maiden T20I hundred came against Afghanistan in an Asia Cup Super Four match in September 2022: 122 not out from 61 balls, with 12 fours and six sixes, in India’s 212 for 2. It ended a run of nearly three years without an international century, his previous one having come in a Test against Bangladesh at Eden Gardens in November 2019.

Rohit Sharma 121* and 118

Rohit and Suryakumar Yadav are the two batters with a pair of innings in this top ten. Rohit’s unbeaten 121 against Afghanistan at Bengaluru in January 2024 is the higher of his; his 118 from 43 balls against Sri Lanka at Indore in December 2017, at a strike rate of 274.41, is the fastest-scoring hundred any India batter has made in the format and held the national record for close to five years.
