Joe Root is the only batter in the top ten to have played a Test in 2026. He has faced 24,783 balls in 169 Tests, 1,779 behind Alastair Cook in sixth place. Steve Smith, the next batter on the list to have played in 2026, has 20,439.

Figures are from ESPNcricinfo’s Statsguru, as of 29 October 2026. Ball counts were not recorded for many early Tests, so the innings lists cover only innings with a recorded count.
