Wrexham are off the mark at the fourth attempt, and Millwall have conceded eight in two games

Zak Sturge got the decisive touch, and it was not the one he wanted. Issa Kabore swung a ball in from the right on 28 minutes, Sturge stuck out a leg, and Max Crocombe was left watching it spin past him. Millwall never recovered from it.
Wrexham won 3-0 at the New Den on Wednesday night for their first Championship victory of the season. Four games in, at one of the least welcoming grounds in the division, Phil Parkinson’s side finally got the result their opening month had not produced.
Moore and Ekomie finished the job
Kieffer Moore made it two seven minutes into the second half, placing a drive into the bottom corner from distance. Jacques Ekomie added the third on 69 minutes, sweeping in after Danny Imray had worked the ball to him down the right.
None of it was complicated. Millwall gave Wrexham a goal, then stopped competing for the other two.
“I am pleased to get the first win of the season. I felt it was deserved,” Parkinson said. “Coming to Millwall is one of the hardest grounds to come to. It’s about quietening the crowd.”
Millwall have shipped eight in two matches
Alex Neil’s team lost 5-1 at Southampton on August 29 and then conceded three more at home four days later. Eight goals across two matches is the sort of stretch that turns a solid start into something else, and Millwall now sit 10th on six points from four games.
“A disappointing night at the office,” Neil said. “We had to change our shape because of a lack of wide players.”
Wrexham move up to 11th on five points. Before Wednesday they had drawn 1-1 at Cardiff City on the opening day and 1-1 at home with Watford, then lost 2-1 to Birmingham City in north Wales. One away win does not settle a season. It does change how the next few weeks feel.
A fourth promotion is still the target
Wrexham reached the Championship on the back of three straight promotions, a run no English club had managed before them. Last season they missed the play-offs by two points, finishing behind a Hull City side that went up and is now in the Premier League.
The owners, Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac, have never pretended the top flight is not the point of all this. Getting there is a different order of difficulty from climbing out of the National League, and the first three weeks of this campaign were a reminder of that.
Both clubs are back out on Saturday. Millwall host Bolton Wanderers, while Wrexham travel to Swansea City for a Welsh derby that will say more about where they actually are.
