Tottenham survived on the Premier League's final day with a Joao Palhinha first-half goal against Everton, and West Ham went down despite a 3-0 win at home to Leeds. Liverpool sealed Champions League qualification with a 1-1 draw against Brentford, and Mohamed Salah said goodbye to Anfield with the assist on his side's only goal.
West Ham go down with a win
Valentin Castellanos, Jarrod Bowen and Callum Wilson scored second-half goals against Leeds at the London Stadium, but the 3-0 scoreline meant nothing once Tottenham's match at home to Everton swung the other way. Palhinha pounced on his own rebounded header just before the break and the goal held through the second half, leaving Tottenham two points clear of West Ham in 17th and the Hammers in 18th. Wolves and Burnley had already been confirmed down in the weeks before.
Liverpool seal a Champions League spot as Salah signs off
Brentford had Champions League ambitions of their own going into the day, but a draw was enough for Liverpool. Curtis Jones turned in a 58th-minute opener from a Salah cross, and Kevin Schade equalised in the 64th. The assist nudged Salah to 93 Premier League assists for the club, one ahead of Steven Gerrard, and capped his final home game for Liverpool with his contract running out. Liverpool sign off in fifth, into the Champions League, and on a four-game winless run.
Guardiola loses his Etihad farewell
Manchester City finished their season with a 2-1 home defeat to Aston Villa as Ollie Watkins scored twice after the break, the second confirmed on a VAR review. Pep Guardiola's 593rd and final match in charge of City ended with the club dropping to second behind champions Arsenal. Villa's win lifted them to fourth place on 65 points, days after they lifted the Europa League in Istanbul.
