McTominay scored twice six weeks after heart surgery, and Allegri has his first Champions League win at Napoli
Napoli led Bodø/Glimt three times at the Maradona and won 4-3, ending a five-game winless run in the Champions League.

Matteo Politano had Napoli ahead inside the first minute at the Maradona on Tuesday night, and they still needed Scott McTominay’s two goals and a Bodø/Glimt own goal to get over the line. Napoli won 4-3. Sondre Fet’s header in stoppage time made the last few seconds louder than they had any right to be.
It was the first Champions League win of Massimiliano Allegri’s time in Naples, at the third attempt. Napoli lost 1-0 at home to Arsenal on matchday one and 3-1 at Villarreal a week ago, and the run without a win in the competition had reached five games, four of them defeats.
Ahead three times, caught twice
Politano’s opener came from a Leonardo Spinazzola cross, volleyed in at the far post with the clock still under a minute. Bodø took 27 minutes to find a reply: Fet slipped the ball to Jens Petter Hauge, who curled it into the bottom corner.
Kevin De Bruyne, playing deep with Zambo Anguissa and McTominay either side of him, found McTominay for the second goal four minutes before half-time. McTominay hit the post on the hour. Two minutes later Fet played Andreas Helmersen in and it was 2-2.
Napoli went in front for good from a cross. Politano swung the ball in on 75 minutes and McTominay headed it home. Then Giovane, on as a substitute, took the ball off Fredrik Sjøvold near the byline, and his ball across went in off Odin Bjørtuft on 88 minutes. Fet’s header from a yard out deep in added time was Bodø’s third and only made the scoreline look closer.
McTominay six weeks after heart surgery
Six weeks ago McTominay was in a Manchester hospital. He had a catheter ablation there on 8 September for what Napoli called a mild, benign arrhythmia, and missed the Arsenal game because of it. These were his first goals since the operation. They also make him the highest-scoring Scottish player in the Champions League.
De Bruyne created more chances than anyone on the pitch, and Politano finished with a goal and an assist.
Allegri is not off the hook yet
The scoreline flatters Napoli a little. Bodø had 57 percent of the ball and more of the clear chances, according to Sofascore’s numbers, and their expected goals figure of 2.67 was well ahead of Napoli’s 1.53. Allegri’s own complaint afterwards was about the defending. His side concede too many goals, he said, and let the ball through too easily when defending close to their own box.
He also pushed back on the mood around the club. Results change opinions, he said, but Napoli had chances in Florence and Venice as well. Napoli drew 1-1 in Florence and lost 1-0 in Venice in Serie A.
Both sides now have three points from three games. For Bodø, after the 1-0 win over Dortmund at the Aspmyra last week, that is still a respectable return for Kjetil Knutsen’s team. For Napoli, it is a start.
