Marušić own goal and Lautaro Martínez seal Inter's Coppa Italia and complete the Double
Inter walked off the Stadio Olimpico turf with the Coppa Italia in their hands and a second piece of silverware to sit alongside the Scudetto, beating Lazio 2-0 on Wednesday night to complete the domestic Double.
The opener came from the worst kind of accident. Adam Marušić tried to clear a low Dumfries delivery in the 14th minute and turned it past his own goalkeeper, gifting Cristian Chivu's side the lead before Maurizio Sarri's bench had really settled.
The second was no accident. Lautaro Martínez found space at the back post in the 35th minute, met another Dumfries cross, and finished it cleanly to make it 2-0 at the break. Inter were not troubled again.
A 10th Coppa Italia and the Double sealed
It is Inter's tenth Coppa Italia title, moving them ahead of Roma and behind only Juventus in the all-time list. Combined with the 21st Scudetto they wrapped up against Parma on 3 May, it gives Chivu the league-and-cup Double in his debut season on the bench.
The 68,729 inside the Stadio Olimpico mostly turned up in Lazio colours, but the result mirrored the league meeting only days earlier, when Inter beat the same opponents 3-0 at the same venue on 9 May. Lazio simply have no recent answer to this Inter team.
Denzel Dumfries picked up the player-of-the-final award, his name on both Inter goals as a creator. The Dutch wing-back has been one of the standout performers of Chivu's domestic run, and the Coppa Italia final put a stamp on it.
What Lazio take away
For Sarri, this is a second straight defeat to the Nerazzurri inside a week, after the 3-0 league loss on 9 May, and a reminder that even with a settled XI the gap to Inter right now is real. The Marušić own goal will sting for the Montenegrin defender, but the second-half display, with Lazio chasing shadows, was the more honest reflection of the contest.
Both clubs qualify for the 2026-27 Supercoppa Italiana on the back of this final, with Inter heading in as the holders of both domestic prizes.
