Kroupi 39, Haaland 90+5: Bournemouth 1-1 City hands Arsenal the Premier League title

Junior Kroupi's record-breaking 13th of the season and Erling Haaland's fifth-minute-of-stoppage-time equaliser cancelled each other out at the Vitality, but the draw was the one Arsenal needed and the title is theirs with one game still to play.

Bournemouth needed nothing from this game. Manchester City needed three points to take the Premier League title race to the final day. They got one, and they got it deep into stoppage time, and by then a 19-year-old at the other end had already changed the season.

Junior Kroupi swept Adrien Truffert's pass into the top corner in the 39th minute at the Vitality Stadium on Tuesday night. Erling Haaland eventually levelled in the fifth minute of added time. The 1-1 draw was the one Arsenal needed, and the title is theirs with one game still to play.

The match that ended the title race

Andoni Iraola's side controlled long stretches of a game they were supposed to soak up. Marcus Tavernier released Truffert down the left, the cross was cut back, and Kroupi curled it into the right corner with no fuss. By full-time City had piled up 14 shots, 43 touches in the Bournemouth box and 55 per cent of the ball, and almost none of it produced anything cleaner than half a chance.

Bournemouth even came closest to a second. In the 91st minute David Brooks slipped in behind Pep Guardiola's back line one-on-one and rattled the front post with the goal opening up in front of him. Within a minute the same upright on the other end of the pitch denied Rodri, and Haaland was on the rebound to sweep it home for the equaliser in the fifth minute of stoppage time.

Kroupi's record-breaking season

The goal was Kroupi's 13th in the Premier League this season, the highest tally any teenager has managed in a debut Premier League campaign. The names he passed are Robbie Fowler and Robbie Keane, both of whom finished their debut seasons on 12. The Frenchman, who turns 20 in June, joined Bournemouth in February of last year for around 10 million pounds.

Conversion rate of 27.3 per cent for the season tells the second half of the story. Among the 32 Premier League players who have scored at least eight league goals in 2025-26, Kroupi has been the most clinical of the lot.

Iraola's last home game and a Europe-bound Bournemouth

Tuesday was Iraola's last game at the Vitality. The Basque coach announced his departure earlier this year, with Athletic Bilbao his rumoured next destination, and Marco Rose has already been appointed on a three-year deal to take over for 2026-27. The send-off at full-time was for a head coach who has now taken Bournemouth 17 league games without defeat, guaranteed a top-seven finish, and left the Cherries in genuine contention for a Champions League place going into Sunday's trip to Nottingham Forest.

For City, the table is what it is. Arsenal sit on 82 points, City on 78, with one match each remaining. Aston Villa visit the Etihad on Sunday in a game that no longer decides anything for the home side beyond a final-week confirmation of second place.

What it means for Arsenal

The title goes back to north London for the first time since the Invincibles in 2003-04. Mikel Arteta's side had taken the first step on Monday night with Kai Havertz's header against Burnley, and Tuesday closed the door. Twenty-two years of waiting, three straight seasons as runners-up, one Haaland equaliser that arrived too late to matter.
