Kane’s 100th Bundesliga game ended 6-1, and Luis Díaz’s hat-trick sent Bayern back to the top
Bayern were 3-0 up at half-time against RB Leipzig and finished with 17 shots on target, four days before Arsenal visit the Allianz Arena.

Harry Kane’s 100th Bundesliga game ended with him on 102 goals, which is more than anyone has scored in their first 100 games in the league. He was still only the second-best player on the pitch at the Allianz Arena on Saturday evening. Luis Díaz scored a hat-trick and set up another, and Bayern Munich beat RB Leipzig 6-1 to go back to the top of the table.
Bayern had drawn their two previous games, 2-2 at Augsburg and 3-3 with Viking in the Champions League. Leipzig got none of that version of them.
Three by half-time
Díaz opened the scoring in the 12th minute, running on to a Joshua Kimmich through ball. He then turned provider for Aleksandar Pavlović in the 26th minute, and Michael Olise made it 3-0 eight minutes later after a one-two with Kane.
Martín Demichelis made two changes at half-time. It did not help. Díaz scored again shortly after the restart, Kane turned in Nathaniel Brown’s pull-back, and Díaz finished the job in the 69th minute. Andrija Maksimović’s goal in stoppage time was all Leipzig had to show for the evening.
It could have been worse. Maarten Vandevoordt made 11 saves, a club record for a Leipzig goalkeeper in a Bundesliga match, and Bayern had 17 shots on target out of 29, their most in a league game since August 2022. Add the 7-0 against Union Berlin and the 5-1 against Stuttgart, and that is 18 goals in three home league games this season.
Díaz’s night, Kane’s milestone
This was the second Bundesliga hat-trick of Díaz’s career, and with the assist for Pavlović he had a hand in four of the six. Kane was very good too, with a goal and his part in Olise’s, but this was Díaz’s night.
Demichelis did not hide from it. “We owe our fans an apology. You can lose in Munich, but not like that,” the Leipzig coach said. “We were too passive without the ball and offered nothing when we had possession.” He also admitted he “could have made five substitutions at half-time”, and asked people to criticise him rather than single out his players.
Leipzig are seventh on nine points and have lost all three of their away league games this season. They are back in the Champions League on Wednesday.
Top, for now, and Arsenal next
Bayern have 14 points from six games, level with Borussia Dortmund but ahead on goal difference after Dortmund drew 0-0 at Union Berlin earlier on Saturday. Freiburg are a point behind on 13, and they play at Bayer Leverkusen on Sunday knowing a win would put them top.
Vincent Kompany’s side host Arsenal in the Champions League on Wednesday, and they will be without Olise, who is suspended after his red card against Viking. On this form, I am not sure that matters as much as it would have a week ago.
