Harry Kane’s Bayern deal runs to 2027, and he has agreed in principle to stay until 2029

Bayern have broken a habit of one-year deals for players over 30 to keep their 33-year-old striker, who is one game from Peter Shilton’s England caps record.

Harry Kane’s Bayern deal runs to 2027, and he has agreed in principle to stay until 2029

Harry Kane and Bayern Munich have reached an agreement in principle on a new deal running to 2029, Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg reported on Monday. Nothing has been signed. The final details are still being worked through, and no date has been set for the signing.

Kane’s current contract runs to June 2027. The 65 million euro release clause that once let him leave for a fixed fee is gone too: he had to tell Bayern by the end of January 2026 if he wanted to use it, and he never did.

An exception at 33

Bayern don’t usually do this for players in their thirties. Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, now on the club’s supervisory board, said as much. “In the past I would have said: as a matter of principle, players over 30 should only be given one-year contracts. But there are exceptions when you are convinced by a player. And we are with Harry.” He added: “People must not forget: in three years he was injured only once.”

The numbers back him up. Kane scored 61 goals in 51 games for Bayern in 2025-26 and 73 for club and country. His 36 in the Bundesliga won him the league’s top scorer award for the third year running, making him the first player to take it in each of his first three Bundesliga seasons, and a second European Golden Shoe, nine clear of Erling Haaland.

The money has not been the sticking point. Bulinews reported in August that he would stay on around 25 million euros a season, with no suggestion of a pay cut.

Barcelona miss out

Barcelona asked about him before the World Cup. Their enquiry went to his representatives, who said Kane was content in Munich and would settle his future after the tournament. He has, and not in their favour.

A record first, then the paperwork

The contract talks are expected to wrap up once the international break is over. Before that, Kane has some business at Wembley. England host Czechia in the Nations League at 7.45pm UK time on Tuesday (12.15am IST on Wednesday), and if he plays it will be his 125th cap, level with Peter Shilton’s England record. He won his 124th in the 7-0 win over Croatia in Rijeka.
