Dortmund were 2-0 up with five minutes left, and Füllkrug’s stoppage-time header ended their perfect start
Werder Bremen scored twice after the 87th minute at Signal Iduna Park to hand the Bundesliga leaders their first dropped points of the season.

Borussia Dortmund went into Friday night with four wins from four and, after 85 minutes against Werder Bremen, a 2-0 lead. They finished it with a 2-2 draw and their first dropped points of the Bundesliga season, and the man who took them away was Niclas Füllkrug, back at Signal Iduna Park for the first time since he left for West Ham in 2024.
All four goals came in the last ten minutes. The first half finished goalless.
Five minutes that should have settled it
Niko Kovač’s side had most of the ball and most of the chances, and the breakthrough finally came on 80 minutes. Fabio Silva and Serhou Guirassy worked it into the box on the break and Daniel Svensson poked it in from close range. Five minutes later Nico Schlotterbeck rose to head in a corner, and that looked like the night done.
It wasn’t. Dortmund gave the ball away on 88 minutes and Ludovit Reis drove a low shot in from the edge of the area. Then, deep into stoppage time, Marco Grüll swung in a free-kick and Füllkrug was left completely alone to head the equaliser.
Füllkrug’s night
Füllkrug knows this fixture from both dressing rooms. He came through Werder’s academy, was the Bundesliga’s joint top scorer in 2022-23 with 16 goals, and then spent a season at Dortmund before West Ham bought him. England did not go well, with injuries a big part of it, and Bremen brought him back on a season-long loan in August. He is 33. On Friday he needed one clean header, and Dortmund let him have it.
For Bremen and Daniel Thioune, a point away at the league leaders is a decent return from a game they were losing with two minutes left. Dortmund will feel this one for a while. They needed 80 minutes to find a way through, scored twice in five minutes, and then couldn’t defend one free-kick at 2-1 up in stoppage time.
Bayern’s chance
Dortmund are still top this morning, on 13 points. Bayern Munich go to Augsburg on Saturday and can take first place with a win.
