Chelsea’s 117 million pound signing scored in the seventh minute, and Hull still left Stamford Bridge with a point
Hull City had not conceded a Premier League goal all season before Saturday afternoon. They conceded two at Stamford Bridge, scored two through Mohamed Belloumi, and are still unbeaten.

Chelsea paid 117 million pounds for Morgan Rogers in July, the most any British player has ever cost. He scored inside seven minutes at Stamford Bridge on Saturday. Hull City, promoted in May and playing their fourth match back in the Premier League, went in at half-time leading and left with a point.
Six minutes in the first half decided it
The opening goal ran exactly the way Chelsea’s summer was supposed to. Cole Palmer found Joao Pedro, Joao Pedro found Rogers, and Rogers hit it at the near post in the seventh minute. At that stage Hull had not scored at Stamford Bridge and were three games into a season in which nobody had scored against them either.
Mohamed Belloumi settled the first of those in the 28th minute, meeting a bouncing ball from Ryan Giles and finishing from inside the box with space around him. Six minutes later Semi Ajayi’s header came back off the crossbar, the ball dropped to Belloumi again, and his shot went in off a deflection. Hull led 2-1 at half-time.
Joao Pedro got Chelsea level in the 66th minute with a finish from close range. Chelsea had chances after that and did not take them, which is the part Xabi Alonso will keep coming back to.
Hull had not conceded a goal until Saturday
The number worth sitting with is not the scoreline. Hull came into this match having played three Premier League games and conceded none of them. They beat Manchester United 2-0 on the opening weekend through Ajayi and Nobel Mendy, both from set pieces, won 1-0 at Coventry through Liam Millar, and drew 0-0 with Aston Villa at the MKM Stadium.
Three clean sheets to start a season after promotion has happened twice before in Premier League history, to Charlton in 1998-99 and Huddersfield in 2017-18. Sergej Jakirovic’s side made it three, and the run ended at the ground where you would have picked it to end. They still did not lose.
Belloumi and the name on the back
Belloumi is 24 and from Mascara in western Algeria. He signed for Hull in August 2024 on a four-year contract, lost a large part of last season to injury, and has now scored twice in an afternoon against the club that bought the most expensive British footballer in history.
His father is Lakhdar Belloumi, who scored the winner when Algeria beat West Germany in Gijon at the 1982 World Cup, went to a second World Cup in 1986, and was African Footballer of the Year in 1981. Two goals at Stamford Bridge is a reasonable way for the son to start making the surname his own.
Where it leaves both of them
Hull have eight points from four games and are still unbeaten. Chelsea have seven. Liverpool drew 0-0 with Fulham at Anfield in the same three o’clock block, so Chelsea were not the only home side to give up points on Saturday, but Alonso’s team gave them up to a club that was playing a Championship play-off final at Wembley in May.
None of that decides anything in September. It does mean the promoted side nobody had much to say about in August is going to be talked about for a while yet.
