Bodø/Glimt lost 5-0 in Munich last month, and Sjøvold’s goal beat Dortmund at the Aspmyra
Fredrik Sjøvold scored seven minutes after half-time, and Niko Kovac said Dortmund deserved to lose their first game since the German Super Cup.

Bodø/Glimt’s Champions League campaign started with a 5-0 hiding in Munich. Their first home game of it ended with Borussia Dortmund’s captain asking his team-mates what had gone wrong. Fredrik Sjøvold’s goal seven minutes after half-time gave the Norwegian side a 1-0 win at the Aspmyra Stadion on Wednesday night, and it was Dortmund’s first defeat since the German Super Cup.
Both clubs now have three points from two league-phase games. Dortmund had beaten Villarreal 3-2 in their opener.
One cross, one finish
The goal came in the 52nd minute. Sondre Auklend sent in a low cross, and Sjøvold hit it first time at the near post, past Gregor Kobel.
Bodø had been the livelier side before the break without making it count, and Sondre Fet curled one just past the post. Early in the second half Andreas Helmersen forced a save from Kobel, and the goal followed soon after.
Awake too late
Niko Kovac made four changes on the hour, sending on Felix Nmecha, Serhou Guirassy, Julian Ryerson and Ethan Nwaneri, and Dortmund looked more like themselves for the last half-hour. Nikita Haikin got fingertips to a curling Nmecha shot from distance. Nwaneri, on a season-long loan from Arsenal, had the best chance to equalise with about 15 minutes left and could not take it.
On expected goals it was close, 1.13 to 0.78 in Bodø’s favour according to FotMob.
“We deserved to lose”
Kovac did not argue with the result. “There’s nothing we can complain about, we deserved to lose,” he told DAZN. “We didn’t bring enough passion today. That’s something Bodø did much better.” He also admitted his side only woke up once they were behind, “but by then it was too late.”
Waldemar Anton went further. “Each of us needs to ask ourselves what the problem was,” the Dortmund captain said. “In several areas we were missing our intensity today, and without this intensity you won’t win a game.”
Aspmyra does it again
Nobody should be shocked by a big club losing in Bodø any more. Manchester City and Inter both lost there last season, and so did Sporting, beaten 3-0 in the first leg of the round of 16 before turning the tie around in Lisbon. That makes four Champions League home wins out of four in 2026 for Kjetil Knutsen’s side. Dortmund had been warned, too. Bodø came from behind twice to draw 2-2 at their place last December.
Munich showed how big the gap can be when Bodø travel. On an artificial pitch above the Arctic Circle, it is much smaller, and Napoli will be glad they get them at home.
Bodø go to Napoli next Tuesday. Dortmund play Union Berlin in the Bundesliga on Saturday and then travel to Sabah in Azerbaijan for their third Champions League game.
