Bernardo Silva will leave Manchester City this summer when his contract expires. The Portugal international and current City captain confirmed his exit in a personal post on April 16, more than a week after assistant manager Pep Lijnders revealed the news on April 5. The 31-year-old said he would always be "a City supporter for life".

Nine years, six titles, and a Champions League

Silva arrived from Monaco in 2017 and is one of only a few players still left from the squad that began Pep Guardiola's reshape of the club. He made 451 appearances and won the Premier League six times, including four in a row from 2020/21 to 2023/24. He was central to the side that completed the continental treble in 2022/23, and added two FA Cups and five EFL Cups along the way. He has 76 goals and 77 assists in City colours.

Where he might go next

Silva has said he will wait until the end of the season before deciding on his next club. Reports across this week have linked him with Juventus, Galatasaray, Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, and a sentimental return to Benfica, where his career began.

Italian reports earlier this week claimed Juventus had presented a three-year contract worth around €7 million per season, with bonuses that could push the package closer to €8-9 million. Juventus need to qualify for the Champions League to seriously enter the race, and Real Madrid are reportedly out of the running.

Barcelona have long been linked, and Silva has previously spoken about a possible move to La Liga, but the financial picture in Catalonia is the usual obstacle. Galatasaray have positioned themselves as a credible option after his exit. Türkiye Today reports the Turkish champions are preparing to make a serious push.

A captain at the end of an era

Silva took the City captaincy ahead of the 2025/26 season, after Kevin De Bruyne's departure. His exit leaves the club without a senior leader who has been at the Etihad through every Guardiola Premier League title. The midfielder has been clear about one thing in interviews this week: he intends to stay in European football, not move to MLS or Saudi Arabia.
