Barcelona have won all six, and Sevilla’s only win in 12 meetings came at this ground

Barcelona go to the Sanchez-Pizjuan with a perfect record and 28 goals. The last time they lost their first-choice goalkeeper to a meniscus injury, they came here and lost 4-1.

Barcelona have won all six, and Sevilla’s only win in 12 meetings came at this ground

Six games, six wins, 28 goals. Barcelona’s start to the 2026-27 La Liga season has been the kind that makes a trip to the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan look like a formality, which is exactly what it looked like the last time they went there. Sevilla won that one 4-1. Kick-off is 12.30am IST on Sunday, which is Saturday night in Seville.

A winger at centre-forward, and 28 goals

Barcelona lead the table on 18 points from 18, three clear of Real Madrid and five clear of Sevilla, and the goal column is where the gap really sits. They have scored 28 and conceded six. Sevilla have scored nine.

Hansi Flick has spent the season so far playing Raphinha through the middle. The 29-year-old Brazilian, Barcelona’s first captain, was directly involved in nine of the club’s first 21 league goals with six of his own and three assists, then took a hat-trick off Racing Santander in the 7-2 win at Camp Nou on Wednesday. That is nine goals in six matches from a player who spent most of his career on the left wing.

Lamine Yamal is on the other flank and Anthony Gordon, signed this summer, has slotted in alongside them. Barcelona still do not have a recognised number nine. So far it has not cost them a point.

Sevilla have found a way to win by one goal

Luis Garcia Plaza took the Sevilla job in March 2026, a day after Matias Almeyda was sacked, and inherited a team on the way to finishing 13th. Six matches into his first full season they are fifth on 13 points, level with Atletico Madrid and separated only by goal difference.

The method has been narrow. Sevilla beat Valencia 1-0 at home on 11 September, then won 1-0 at Deportivo La Coruna five days later. Nine goals in six matches is a modest return, and the six they have conceded is the same defensive record Barcelona, Real Madrid, Real Betis and Atletico all carry. Sevilla have reached 13 points by keeping games small.

Barcelona have not been in a small game yet this season. Something gives at one end of that on Saturday.

What happened here on 5 October 2025

Sevilla have beaten Barcelona once in their last 12 meetings. It was at this ground, eleven months ago, and it was not close.

Alexis Sanchez put Sevilla ahead from the penalty spot in the 13th minute after Ronald Araujo fouled Isaac Romero, and Romero made it two before half-time. Marcus Rashford pulled one back just before the interval. Robert Lewandowski then dragged a 76th-minute penalty wide, and Jose Angel Carmona and Akor Adams finished it late. Barcelona lost their unbeaten league record that afternoon.

Almost nothing about either squad is the same now. The scoreline is still the reason Sevilla will fancy their chances.

Barcelona have been here before, in goal

Joan Garcia felt discomfort in his right knee in the first half against Racing and was replaced by Wojciech Szczesny at the break. Tests found a meniscus problem and he is expected to be out for about three weeks, back after the international break.

Barcelona have run this exact sequence before. In October 2025 Garcia was ruled out with a torn meniscus, Szczesny took the gloves for the trip to this ground, and he picked the ball out of his net four times.

Szczesny is the favourite to start again, though he lost the ball in the build-up to Racing’s second goal on Wednesday and Dominik Livakovic, signed this summer and still waiting for his Barcelona debut, is the alternative. Flick was due to settle it at Friday’s press conference. Frenkie de Jong and Roony Bardghji are both out with knee injuries.

Sevilla are without Ruben Vargas, who has a knee problem, and defender Arouna Sangante, who has an ankle injury. They have no suspensions.
