Arsenal are chasing a 15th straight league-phase win, and Bayern may be without Kompany as well as Olise tonight

Arsenal have won their last 14 Champions League league-phase games. One more at the Allianz Arena tonight and they move within two of the record, which belongs to the side they are playing: Bayern Munich won 17 in a row between 2020 and 2023.

Bayern will not be at full strength, and they may not have their manager either. Vincent Kompany has a viral infection and missed Tuesday’s press conference, where his assistant Aaron Danks took the questions. Kick-off is 9pm in Munich, which is 12:30am IST on Thursday.

Kompany, Olise and Musiala doubtful or out

“Vincent has a viral infection. It’s important that he gets some rest,” Danks said. The club is checking on Kompany day by day, and it is not yet clear whether he will be at the ground.

The player Bayern will miss most is Michael Olise. He was sent off in the 3-3 draw with Viking in Stavanger, having already been booked, for throwing the ball into Zlatko Tripic’s face, and Kompany called it a “stupid mistake” that cost two points. Olise serves a one-match ban tonight, and Lennart Karl is expected to take his place. Jamal Musiala is out with a thigh problem.

There are two more question marks. Manuel Neuer has missed two games with a foot injury and has been back on the pitch for two days. “We haven’t made a decision yet,” Danks said, and Jonas Urbig will play if Neuer does not. Joshua Kimmich missed Tuesday’s training for personal reasons. “I’m not sure what that will mean for tomorrow,” Danks said.

Arsenal have kept two clean sheets

Arsenal have won 1-0 at Napoli and 3-0 at home to Lille. Only four goals, which is a strange total for a team on a 14-game winning run, but they have not conceded either. They come into this one after a 1-0 win at Nottingham Forest on Sunday, where their only shot on target was Noni Madueke’s 80th-minute winner.

Martín Zubimendi has recovered from an ankle problem. “Zubi is back with us, so he will be involved tomorrow,” Mikel Arteta said. William Saliba is still out with a back injury, and Piero Hincapié misses out too, though Arteta said he could be available for Everton on Saturday if he trains in the next few days.

The last time these two met, Arsenal beat Bayern 3-1 at the Emirates in November 2025. That was part of the 8-from-8 league phase that carried Arsenal all the way to the final in Budapest, where they lost to PSG on penalties. Arteta has not got over it. “By a penalty we were not champions of Europe, so let’s try again,” he said.

Kane, and a ground Arsenal rarely enjoy

Bayern’s own start has been mixed. They beat Bodø/Glimt 5-0 at home before the draw in Norway, and they come into this game top of the Bundesliga after a 6-1 win over RB Leipzig on Saturday, when Harry Kane played his 100th Bundesliga game and Luis Díaz scored a hat-trick.

Kane knows Arsenal well from his Tottenham years, and Arteta did not play the threat down. “What Harry’s doing, and has done in the last few years, is just something else, another level,” he said.

Munich has not been a kind place for Arsenal. Their one win there came in 2013, a 2-0 that still sent them out of the competition. Arteta called it a bizarre game. A Bayern side without Olise and possibly without its manager looks there to be beaten. But Arsenal have scored four goals in two games, and a team that scores that rarely has very little room for a bad night in Munich.
