Arsenal agree a deal to sign Christos Tzolis from Club Brugge

Arsenal have agreed a deal to sign Christos Tzolis from Club Brugge, adding the Greek winger to Mikel Arteta’s attack for a fee in the region of 40 million euros. The move is expected to be confirmed once Tzolis completes his medical, and it fills the gap on the left flank that opened when Leandro Trossard left for Besiktas earlier this month.

A club-record sale for Brugge

The 24-year-old arrives on the back of the best season of his career. Tzolis was named the Belgian Pro League’s player of the season for 2025-26, the award widely regarded as the Belgian Footballer of the Year, after driving Brugge to the domestic title. The fee, worth around 34 million pounds, is understood to be a record for a sale from the Belgian top flight, which tells you how highly his old club rated him.

His numbers made the price easy to justify. Tzolis scored 17 goals and set up 23 more in the league alone, output that put him among the most productive attackers in Belgium and drew scouts from across Europe long before Arsenal moved to the front of the queue.

Filling the Trossard gap

Trossard’s departure left Arteta short of a senior option who could play across the front line, and Tzolis fits that brief. He is a natural left winger who cuts inside onto his stronger right foot, but he has spent stretches of his career operating centrally and drifting between the lines, the kind of positional flexibility Arteta has leaned on heavily.

He is not a like-for-like Trossard, who offered a calm, experienced head in tight games. Tzolis is younger and more direct, and he carries a bigger goal threat from wide areas. That is a different profile, and it points to Arsenal wanting more penetration rather than simply replacing what walked out the door.

Arsenal’s third summer arrival

Tzolis becomes Arsenal’s third signing of the window. The club made Piero Hincapie’s loan permanent and brought in goalkeeper Illan Meslier on a free transfer, and the Greek’s arrival continues a summer aimed at deepening a squad that pushed hard on multiple fronts last season.

There is a fair question about how quickly he settles, and Tzolis already knows English football can be unforgiving. He arrived at Norwich City from PAOK in 2021 with a big reputation and a matching price tag, made 30 appearances, and never nailed down a place before loan spells and the move to Belgium rebuilt his career. He returns a more complete player, one who has since handled Champions League nights and rescued a late draw against Atletico Madrid last season. Arsenal will bank on that hard-earned experience, and on his age, to make the second English chapter read very differently from the first.

For now, the paperwork and the medical are the last hurdles. Once those clear, Arteta will have the wide attacker he wanted, and Arsenal supporters will get their first look at a player who spent last season making defenders in Belgium look ordinary.
