The Premier League is known for its physicality and pace, which makes it hard for players arriving from abroad to adapt. Erling Haaland did not need long. In his first season after joining Manchester City from Borussia Dortmund, he scored 36 Premier League goals in 2022-23, a record for a single season, and won the Golden Boot by six goals.

He was the first Norwegian to win the Premier League Golden Boot. He scored three hat-tricks in City’s first eight league games, including one in the 6-3 derby win over Manchester United, and finished the season with four.

Harry Kane: 30 goals and second place

Harry Kane scored 30 for Tottenham, a total that would have won the Golden Boot in most seasons. It was his last season in England before joining Bayern Munich. During it he passed Sergio Agüero (184), Andy Cole (187) and Wayne Rooney (208) on the all-time list, and he finished on 213 Premier League goals, second only to Alan Shearer’s 260.

The rest of the Golden Boot race

Brentford’s Ivan Toney was third with 20 goals. Mohamed Salah recovered from a slow start to score 19 for Liverpool, and Newcastle’s Callum Wilson got 18. Marcus Rashford scored 17 for Manchester United, and four Arsenal players reached double figures as the club finished second: Gabriel Martinelli and Martin Ødegaard (15 each), Bukayo Saka (14) and Gabriel Jesus (11).

Salah went on to win the Golden Boot again in 2024-25, his fourth, which equalled Thierry Henry’s record.
