The biggest Premier League transfers of summer 2025: Isak, Wirtz and the rest

The summer 2025 transfer window ran in two parts: a short early window from 1 to 10 June, so that clubs could register players for the FIFA Club World Cup, and then the main window from 16 June to 1 September 2025. By the time it shut, the British transfer record had been broken on deadline day.

These are the biggest confirmed signings by Premier League clubs, with the fees as reported by BBC Sport. Where a deal has add-ons, the table shows the initial fee first.

Alexander Isak (from Newcastle United to Liverpool)

The window’s biggest deal came last. On deadline day, 1 September 2025, Liverpool signed Alexander Isak from Newcastle for £125 million, a British record. The Sweden striker’s move came after a summer-long stand-off with Newcastle.

Florian Wirtz (from Bayer Leverkusen to Liverpool)

Before Isak, the headline deal was Florian Wirtz. The German midfielder joined Liverpool from Bayer Leverkusen on 20 June for an initial £100 million, in a deal worth up to £116 million. That briefly made him the most expensive signing in British football.

Leverkusen had hoped to keep him, but Wirtz chose Liverpool in May, which led the two clubs into formal talks. Liverpool also added Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt for £69 million and Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth for £40 million.

Manchester United rebuild the attack: Cunha, Mbeumo and Šeško

Manchester United’s three biggest signings were all forwards. Matheus Cunha arrived from Wolves for £62.5 million in the early June window, then Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford for £65 million and Benjamin Šeško from RB Leipzig for an initial £66.3 million, rising to £74 million. All three were signed to rebuild Ruben Amorim’s attack after a poor 2024-25 season.

Arsenal: Zubimendi, Madueke, Gyökeres and Eze

Arsenal made four signings of more than £45 million. Martín Zubimendi came from Real Sociedad for £60 million, Noni Madueke from Chelsea for £48.5 million, Viktor Gyökeres from Sporting for £63 million, and Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace for £60 million. Gyökeres was the centre-forward Arsenal had been looking for.

João Pedro (from Brighton to Chelsea)

Chelsea signed João Pedro from Brighton for £55 million on 2 July. He went straight to the United States and joined the squad at the Club World Cup, making his debut in the quarter-final win over Palmeiras. Chelsea also added Jamie Gittens from Borussia Dortmund for £48.5 million.

Tijjani Reijnders (from AC Milan to Manchester City)

With Kevin De Bruyne gone to Napoli, Manchester City signed Tijjani Reijnders from AC Milan for £46.5 million in the early June window, in time for the Club World Cup. The Dutch midfielder was the first piece of City’s midfield rebuild, alongside Rayan Cherki from Lyon for £30 million.

Newcastle and Tottenham on deadline week

Newcastle replaced Isak with two strikers late in the window: Nick Woltemade from VfB Stuttgart for a club-record £65 million on 30 August, and Yoane Wissa from Brentford for £50 million on deadline day. Tottenham signed Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig for £51.8 million on 29 August.
