The most goals scored in a single league season in Europe’s top five leagues is 128, by Aston Villa in the 1930-31 English First Division – and they did not even win the title. Arsenal were champions that year with 127.
Since 2000, the high mark belongs to Bayern Munich, who scored 122 goals in 34 Bundesliga matches in 2025-26, one more than Real Madrid’s 121 in La Liga in 2011-12.
Every league counts a different number of matches, and the big totals from the 1930s to the 1950s came in longer seasons: Villa played 42 games, Torino 40. Bayern’s 122 came in a 34-game season.
Most goals in a season: the record in each top-five league
| League | Team | Goals | Season | Matches |
| England (First Division) | Aston Villa | 128 | 1930-31 | 42 |
| Italy (Serie A) | Torino | 125 | 1947-48 | 40 |
| Germany (Bundesliga) | Bayern Munich | 122 | 2025-26 | 34 |
| Spain (La Liga) | Real Madrid | 121 | 2011-12 | 38 |
| France (Division 1) | Racing Paris | 118 | 1959-60 | 38 |
The Premier League era record is 106, by Manchester City in 2017-18; Aston Villa’s 128 was set in the old First Division.
Bayern Munich: 122 goals in 2025-26
Bayern won 28, drew five and lost one of their 34 Bundesliga matches in 2025-26, scoring 122 and conceding 36. They passed the club’s own Bundesliga record of 101 with five games to spare, and were crowned champions on 19 April 2026 with four matches left. Harry Kane was the league’s top scorer with 36 goals.
The record they broke dated back to 1971-72, when Bayern scored 101 and Gerd Müller hit 40 league goals. Müller’s single-season mark stood until Robert Lewandowski scored 41 in 2020-21. Their only other 100-goal Bundesliga season since 2000 was 2019-20, when they scored exactly 100.
Torino: 125 goals in 1947-48
Torino, the Grande Torino side led by Valentino Mazzola, scored 125 goals in the 1947-48 Serie A season and won the Scudetto, the fifth title in the club’s history. It remains the Serie A record. The 1947-48 campaign was the only time Serie A was played with 21 teams, which meant 40 matches per side.
AC Milan scored 118 in the 20-team 1949-50 season, with Gunnar Nordahl the league’s top scorer on 35 – but Juventus won the title that year, with 100 goals of their own. No Serie A side has reached 100 since 2000; Atalanta’s 98 in 2019-20 is the closest.
Real Madrid and Barcelona: 121 and the La Liga 100-goal run
Real Madrid hit 121 goals in 2011-12, José Mourinho’s second season in charge, beating the club’s previous record of 107 from 1989-90. Cristiano Ronaldo scored 46 of them. Madrid became the first team in Spanish top-flight history to reach 100 points and won the league with a goal difference of +89, which Barcelona matched in 2014-15.
Barcelona scored 100 or more in six straight La Liga seasons from 2011-12 to 2016-17 (114, 115, 100, 110, 112 and 116). Lionel Messi was the league’s top scorer in three of them, with 50 in 2011-12, 46 in 2012-13 and 37 in 2016-17. Barcelona’s 102 in 2024-25 is the most recent 100-goal season in Spain.
Manchester City and Chelsea: the Premier League’s 100-goal seasons
Chelsea were the first team to score 100 goals in a Premier League season, with 103 in 2009-10, Carlo Ancelotti’s first season at the club. Manchester City hold the record with 106 in 2017-18, the season they became the first Premier League side to reach 100 points, with a record goal difference of +79. Sergio Agüero was their top league scorer with 21.
City have reached 100 three times (102 in 2013-14 and 2019-20 as well), and Liverpool scored 101 in 2013-14, finishing second to City’s 102.
France: Racing Paris 118, PSG 108
The French top-flight record is 118, by Racing Paris in 1959-60. In the modern era, Paris Saint-Germain scored 108 in 2017-18, with Edinson Cavani the league’s top scorer on 28, and 105 the following season. Monaco’s 107 in 2016-17 sits between them.
Every 100-goal league season in the top five leagues since 2000
There have been 27 of them since 2000-01: 16 in La Liga, five in the Premier League, four in Ligue 1, two in the Bundesliga and none in Serie A.
