Orangutan won the BGMI Showdown last year, and they drop to Group B for the final week of qualifying
The defending champions finished 13th in Group A with 25 points and no match wins, so they can no longer qualify directly for the Hyderabad Grand Finals.

Orangutan won the BGMI Showdown last year. They will spend the last week of this year’s qualifiers in Group B. The defending champions scored 25 points from six matches on the final day of Week 2, 13th of the 16 teams in Group A. They did not win a single match. The bottom eight in Group A drop a level, so Orangutan go down with Team Outrage, Rapid Chaos, Wyld Fangs, Vasista, Blue Army, Reckoning and White Walkers.
That has a direct cost. In Week 3, which runs from 28 to 30 September, only the top four teams in Group A qualify straight for the Grand Finals, the LAN event at Savaaya Convention in Hyderabad from 16 to 18 October. Orangutan can no longer take that route. The best they can do from Group B is finish in the top four and go into the semi-finals.
No chicken dinner in 12 matches
This was not one bad afternoon. Orangutan finished fifth in Group A in Week 1, comfortably safe, but across the 12 qualifier matches they have played so far they still have no match win. On Sunday only 20 of their 25 points came from finishes. In 2025 they took the ₹30 lakh first prize and India’s PMGC place. Two weeks into the defence, they have not won a match in either week.
They were not the only big name in trouble. Vasista were second in Group A after Week 1 with 54 points. This week they managed 32 and went down as well.
8Bit top Group A without winning a game
8Bit finished the week on top of Group A with 65 points, and none of those came from a chicken dinner. They made up for it with 43 finishes, the second-highest in the group behind Gladiators Esports, who had 45 and finished second on 63 points. Gladiators also led Group A at the end of Week 1, so they are the most consistent side in the top half.
Madkings were third with 48, and GodLike fourth with 46. GodLike, who won BMPS 2026 in Jaipur in June, took two of the six matches on Sunday, more than anyone else in the group. Meta Ninza, 7Gods, Welt and Epigrotive filled the rest of the places that stay in Group A.
K9 and Soul move up
Group B played on Saturday, and eight teams from it replace the relegated sides. Elite Nova led with 79 points and Revenant XSpark had 72, and both won three matches each. Apex Gaming, Genesis Esports and Team Tamilas also went up, along with Team Soul, K9 Esports and Myth.
K9 and Soul finished second and third in the 2025 Showdown, and Soul were relegated from Group A after Week 1. Now they are back, and next week they get the same chance Orangutan have just lost.
The winner of the ₹1 crore event goes to PMGC 2026, and the top six earn places at BMIC 2026.
