Orangutan win the last game of day one and finish two points off a PMWC Grand Final place
India’s Orangutan were 10th and drifting at the PUBG Mobile World Cup in Paris until the final match of the day, when a Chicken Dinner with 10 kills lifted them to sixth in Group A.

Orangutan spent most of their first day at the PUBG Mobile World Cup going quietly backwards, and then won the last game of it. The Indian side finished day one of Group A in sixth place on 45 points, two points off an automatic Grand Final spot, after taking the Chicken Dinner on Miramar with 10 kills in the final match in Paris.
Before that game they were 10th of 16 on 25 points, closer to the elimination zone than to qualification. The win was worth 20 points on its own, 10 for the placement and 10 for the kills, and it was more than they had managed in the previous four games combined.
The day in six games
They started well. Second place in the opener was worth eight points and put them near the top of the board early. Then came the flat middle of the day: 10th, 10th and 14th across games two, three and four, for six, three and three points, with the kill counts thinning out. Game five, a fifth-place finish for five points, steadied things without fixing them.
So the last game mattered more than a group-stage match on day one usually does, and they played it like it. Ten kills is a serious number in a lobby of 16 professional squads, and the placement points on top turned a mediocre day into a live position.
What sixth place is actually worth
Not qualification, is the short answer, but not disaster either. The top five teams in each group go straight through to the Grand Finals on 14, 15 and 16 August. Teams finishing sixth to 13th drop into the Survival Stage on 11 and 12 August, where 16 sides play another 12 matches for the six remaining Grand Final places. The bottom three in each group go home.
Orangutan are sixth, which currently means the longer route. Two points is nothing across six more games though, and the teams immediately above them are not out of reach. Aurora Gaming and KIWOOM DRX are tied on 47, Nigma Galaxy sit third on 48, and any of those can have the kind of quiet afternoon Orangutan just had in the middle of day one.
Pakistan’s 4Thrives lead the group
The team to catch is 4Thrives, on 59 points without winning a single game. Their day was built on kills rather than placements, 14 in the opening match and 11 in the last one, enough to carry them through a 16th-place finish in game three. The Pakistani roster won the PUBG Mobile Global Open in Jakarta in June, the first Pakistani side to take one of the year’s major international titles, and they have carried that form to Paris. Team GOAT are second on 52 after winning game five with 16 kills, which remains the single biggest game of the group so far.
Group A plays its remaining six matches on Friday, starting at 4:30pm India time. GodLike Esports, the other Indian team here and the reigning BMPS champions, do not begin until Group B opens on 8 August, so India’s second campaign starts on Saturday. This is the first World Cup with two Indian teams in it, and the first day of it ended with one of them winning the last game on the board.
