Orangutan and GodLike are both in the PMWC Grand Finals, and no Indian team had got there before
India has never had a team in the final stage of a PUBG Mobile World Cup. It now has two, after Orangutan took second in Group A and GodLike third in Group B in Paris.

Both of India’s entries at the PUBG Mobile World Cup in Paris are through to the Grand Finals, and neither of them needed the back door to get there. Orangutan came second in Group A. GodLike Esports came third in Group B. Ten teams qualified straight out of the group stage and two of them are Indian, which has not happened at this event before.
Two groups of 16, five spots in each
The group stage ran from 6 to 9 August. Thirty-two teams were split into two groups of 16, each side playing 12 matches. The top five in each group went directly to the Grand Finals, sixth to 13th dropped into a Survival Stage, and the bottom three in each group were sent home.
Orangutan finished on 91 points in Group A, 16 behind 4Thrives of Pakistan, with Aurora, Team Flash and Nigma Galaxy filling the other qualifying places. GodLike closed Group B on 105 points, built on 73 finishes and 32 placement points across their 12 matches. Team Vitality ran away with that group on 148, and IDA Esports took second on 108.
Neither Indian side needed a rescue act in the last match. Both had the job done with something in hand, and both were widely expected to be fighting for their lives in the Survival Stage instead.
Six more places, decided over two days
The rest of the field comes out of the Survival Stage, played on 11 and 12 August. Sixteen teams, 12 matches, six places in the Grand Finals and elimination for the other 10.
That makes a 16-team Grand Finals: the 10 who came through their groups, plus the six who come through the Survival Stage.
What Friday brings
The Grand Finals run from 14 to 16 August at Paris Expo Porte de Versailles. The event was originally set for Riyadh and was moved to Paris in May, and it now sits inside this year’s Esports World Cup. Play starts at 5:00pm IST on each of the three days, six matches a day, 18 in all.
The last day uses the Smash Rule rather than a straight points total. After 12 matches, a threshold is set at the leader’s score plus 10 points. Any team that passes it becomes eligible, and the first eligible team to win a match is champion on the spot. If nobody manages it inside the six matches, the team with the most points takes the title anyway.
There is 3.025 million dollars in the tournament overall, with 1.7 million of it at the Grand Finals, the largest individual payout reserved for the eventual champion. India has 10 players in Paris across the two rosters, in a 32-team field.
The league they left behind
BGMI Masters Series Season 5 started in New Delhi on 10 August without either of them, and the clash gets worse before it gets better: the league’s Bounty Weekend falls on 14 to 16 August, the exact three days of the Grand Finals. Nodwin Gaming’s answer was to hand both teams direct entry into Super Weekend 1 on 21 August, which takes the field to 26 teams.
So the domestic table belongs to everyone else for now. Genesis lead on 139 points, from Revenant XSpark on 128 and Jonathan’s Team Apex Gaming on 124, with the top 16 after Thursday’s final league day going through to the Bounty Weekend.
None of that will matter much from Friday. Two Indian rosters are in a PUBG Mobile World Cup final for the first time, with three days and 18 matches to work out what they can do with it.
