Global Esports are one win from a Champions slot, and they have eight days to wait for it

Global Esports have not lost a series in the VCT Pacific Stage 2 playoffs, and they now have a week off to think about the biggest match the organisation has played. On 4 September they meet Nongshim RedForce in the upper final. Win it and they are in the grand final, and a place at Valorant Champions 2026 in Shanghai comes with it.

Two series, two wins, no lower bracket

The first one was the harder one. Global Esports drew KIWOOM DRX in the opening round of the upper bracket on 26 August and had lost to them in every previous meeting. They took Lotus 13-11, lost Ascent 8-13, and closed it out 13-9 on Abyss. Their standout across the three maps was xavi8k, and his best individual numbers came on Ascent, the one they lost.

The semi-final the following day was more comfortable. VARREL picked Split and lost it 13-10. Global Esports picked Summit and won 13-5. Haven, the decider, was never needed.

What is actually on the line

Pacific sends four teams to Champions in Shanghai, which runs from 24 September to 18 October and is the first Champions held in China. Two of those slots go to the Stage 2 playoff winner and runner-up. The other two go to the region’s highest scorers on Championship Points, and Paper Rex have already taken one of those: their runner-up finish at Masters London in June put them mathematically beyond reach, the first team anywhere in the world to book a Shanghai spot.

So for Global Esports the bracket is the route. Beating Nongshim RedForce on 4 September puts them in the grand final on 6 September, and that is worth a Champions place whatever happens in the final itself, because the runner-up qualifies too.

There is a safety net, but look who is in it

Losing the upper final would not end the run. The beaten team drops into the lower final on 5 September against whoever survives the lower bracket, and the winner of that goes through to the grand final.

The catch is the company down there. Paper Rex, the team that stood between Global Esports and everything for years, lost 0-2 to Nongshim RedForce in the upper bracket and then beat ONSIDE GAMING 2-0 on 28 August to stay alive. T1 knocked DRX out 2-0 on the same day. Lower round two on 29 August is VARREL against Paper Rex and Gen.G against T1. A lower final against Paper Rex is a very different assignment to an upper final against anyone.

The roster doing it

The Global Esports five is xavi8k, PatMen, UdoTan, Kr1stal and Autumn, with ban as the sixth man. It is an Indian organisation with an international roster, which is how VCT Pacific works, and this year the recruitment has paid off.

PatMen is the one worth knowing about. Patrick Mendoza is 24, from Bulacan in the Philippines, and he was working toward a shot at varsity basketball before his brother handed him Valorant during lockdown. He won Masters Toronto with Paper Rex in 2025, the first Filipino to take an international VCT trophy, and picked up Rookie of the Year and Initiator of the Year at that season’s Pacific awards. Global Esports signed him in December 2025. If they do reach the lower final, he may end up playing the club he won that trophy with.

Why this matters for Indian esports

Global Esports have been in VCT Pacific since the league started in 2023 and have never qualified for a Champions. They became the first Indian team to reach a VCT Masters earlier this year, which was the ceiling for an Indian org until then. Champions is the level above that, and they are two results away from it.

The wait is the awkward part. Eight days between the semi-final and the upper final is a long time to sit on form, and Nongshim RedForce have come through the same upper bracket without dropping a series either, having beaten Paper Rex and then Gen.G to get there.
